Re: Google Voicemail - Straight to Voicemail

The problem is that google voice rings for two or three more times even though there aren't any phone numbers listed for google to call.
Do you have phone numbers set up, but just not checked as forwarding numbers, or do you have no numbers set up at all? I might work if you have numbers set up, but then enable "do not disturb," or perhaps just uncheck the numbers.

Yep. Just unchecking all the forwarding numbers (or not having any) will send the calls straight to voicemail. That's the way I have mine set up until I decide to really use the service, which may come after I'm able to port a number to them.

I'm trying that now. Currently I have no number setup.

Edit:

Tried it w/ a number added checked and unchecked as well as w/ dnd enable & disable. Unfortunately it still rings three times before it is sent to voicemail.

I'm gonna try out K7 to see how it works.

Just the caller hears the extra rings, correct? You are not saying that the called phone rings, are you?

My cell phone, and I suspect many others, forwards a call after a set period of time -- around 30 seconds, rather than after a certain number of rings. You might test this by forwarding to a number that will ring and measuring the amount of time before you hear the ring, compared to the amount of time before GV voicemail picks up.

I have noticed that GV will pick up if you press "*" while the phone is still ringing (i.e., before you hear your outgoing message). This is because GV actually takes the call even before the caller knows that it has been answered. I did not realize, however, that this occurs even when GV is configured to send calls directly to voicemail.
