| VPN to multiuser Quickbooks unacceptably slow Hi,
Am trying to connect to a multiuser instance of Quickbooks running on a remote server. The remote server is connected to an unthrottled 6Mbpsx1Mbps DSL link. I'm using Rogers Extreme at this end, 10Mbpsx1Mbps.
Using Quickbooks remotely requires that a VPN session established is between the the server and the remote computer, but the connection is far too slow to make using Quickbooks remotely a viable exercise.
Can anyone tell me what Rogers does/does not do with VPN sessions, and if they are throttling them what kinds of real-world throughput can I reasonably expect to get? Is there any change in this based on the time-of-day, or day-of-week?
Does Rogers throttle only residential VPN sessions or do they throttle VPN session on their business internet service as well? Their site for business »your.rogers.com/business/product···cess.asp does not state anything about this, and I don't trust their customer service reps to know enough to give me a truthful answer.

| Your real problem is quickbooks, its a piece of shit running on the local machine. Running it remotely over VPN makes it even worse. How big is your data file? -- Broadline Networks Inc. | |

| Its also very possible you are being throttled via the its its encrypted it must be torrent traffic BS.
This means instead of getting 1Mbps on your vpn your getting maybe .01 instead.
Also is this connection doing anything else? 6/1
Is the DSL link being throttled (AKA primetime bell throttling).
All in all without a lot more testing, configurations and what not your SOL as to being able to find out what the problem is.
Try it locally first to make sure its not just a machine/quickbooks issue. Then using a good router limit your connection speed to the same as your internets speeds (still on a local connection) and see how it performs...
Then test from somewhere not using rogers, then test from Rogers again.. then test at different times of day?
Good luck, your going to need it.

| You can't practically run Quickbooks or Simply through WAN. Way too slow. No way around that. It's not designed for it.
The only practical way to do it is running it on Terminal Server and accessing by Remote desktop. I have it set up this way and it works very well.
If you don't want to spend big bucks on Terminal server you can access via an XP Pro remote desktop session. It only allows 1 connection though so you need one XP Pro computer for each simultaneous connection.

| Re: VPN to multiuser Quickbooks unacceptably slow i got a simular issue i need to solve soon. My solution is to change providers to just avoid this bs situation all together and not charge the customer more then needed.
Rogers is hurting their clientbase as bell is also with this whole packet inspection bs...

The only product that is USABLE over wan is simply accounting MYSQL version (Enterprise). This works flawlessly over dsl wan connections. -- Broadline Networks Inc.
