My cell phone, and I suspect many others, forwards a call after a set period of time -- around 30 seconds, rather than after a certain number of rings. You might test this by forwarding to a number that will ring and measuring the amount of time before you hear the ring, compared to the amount of time before GV voicemail picks up.
I have noticed that GV will pick up if you press "*" while the phone is still ringing (i.e., before you hear your outgoing message). This is because GV actually takes the call even before the caller knows that it has been answered. I did not realize, however, that this occurs even when GV is configured to send calls directly to voicemail. |
