Software to check SSD drive in an EeePC

I Wooted a refurbed Asus EeePC 900 Netbook. The machine runs a bit slower than I expected, even knowing that SSD writes slower than it reads. I bumped up the RAM to 2GB and haven't noticed any improvement.

I've had it crash twice and upon reboot Windows runs chkdsk and finds problems and fixes them. The last time my Adobe Reader install was corrupted.

Is there any software that will test the SSD drive? From what I saw replacing the memory it isn't really a drive, more like a stick of RAM.

SSD = Solid State Drive. Yep, it's just a stick of RAM.

Won't chkdsk check it for you?

Chkdsk does and finds error and corrects them. Since it is RAM I need to find out if it is bad so I can RMA it if necessary. It crashed again this morning so I'm thinking it isn't as stable as it should be.

Run continuous chkdsks without doing anything else. If it finds an error, it's bad.

I'd also check the RAM itself with Memtest86+ ( »www.memtest.org )...

A Bad stick of RAM *CAN* cause Data Corruption of the HD (or SSD)...

HD Tune has a block (not sector) scanner which you can run (in non-Quick mode) that will tell you if there's any errors. It's a read-only scanner, by the way, so it won't test for write errors.

I don't recommend testing for write errors on SSDs, at least not in the same fashion as hard disks.
