onDvine posted : Similar experience the first year ('06) we lived here. It took a couple of weeks to figure out why Ernie was SO obsessed with the balcony at night. When we did, we got pictures (look under the yellow arrow above). Rats were running on the edge of our balcony carrying loquats to the roof. Stopped after the trees were cut down.
nickc50310 posted : LOL! My cat is definately plotting to kill me! HAHA!

She is a Maincoon. I adopted her when she was a few months old and was a feral cat. She would not let anyone get close to her when I went to adopt her. We trapped her in a small garden cage thing. She started to go nuts and was about to squeeze through one of the openings. Of course, me being the macho man I am, I decided I would just grab her up, bare handed. I figured what would a little kitty do to me! BIG MISTAKE! She ripped my hand open and bit me up pretty good. My hand was literally dripping blood. I still held on to her and put her into a big box for the ride home. She was one of several at my then GFs grandparents. They were becoming a nuisance would have ended up being put down. My GF at the time really wanted this cat. When I dumped her ass, I damn sure wasnt giving up my cats! HAHA!

Over time, I trained her to be friendly with me and others. She is still shy at 3 years old but not bad at all. Since I brought her home she has only bit and scratched me twice. Once was about two months after bringing her home. She wanted to run free in the house and made a dash for the rafters in the basement. I caught her just before she made it and she again gave me the psycho bite and scratch move. I snatched her up and put the fear of god into her. I didnt beat her anything like that. Just got a little rough and yelled at her. Since that night, she has never bit me or scratched me. I cant even get her to bite or scratch me when playing. It is nice to tell my guests that I know 100% she will not harm them. Honestly, she has become the best cat ever. When I want her to do something, she does it. When I want her out of a room. I tell her and she leaves. When I want her off the table, I tell her and she gets down. She will not even touch people food unless it is directly given to her.

She did scratch me one time about 2 months ago. It was my fault though. My buddy brought his Corgi over and I went to pet my cat with the Corgi nearby. This spooked her and I took the defensive attack for the dog. LOL!

I did take in two but one of them died at about a year old. No idea why, just found him dead.

Mashiki posted : Could be that the cat is just isn't accustomed to you yet, you moved too fast or the cat is actually slightly blind. Some are just plain skittish due to their environment. You could try using the skinner method and train it if you're going to be around awhile longer. I've done it with both of my cats, one responds to snapping, the other to nail snicking to call them.

But getting them used to you, by equating you as 'someone who gives it something' is the key part. Whether that's pleasure, food, or enjoyment is the easy part. Catnip, ryegrass, or catgrass are good choices. Also going on with normal daily stuff, and letting the cat see that you're a part of the house will let it get used to you.

Just wanted to add in here, I skipped to obvious stuff here about cats wanting to play(swatting, nipping bitting, etc) my old cat the male doesn't have any sense beyond, ZOMG ATTACK...and goes nuts when he can.
