Re: Need Hardware Recommendation

These devices also have a Java-based GUI you can use. While not as simple as a basic Linksys web interface, it’s quite powerful and exposes a lot of information.

I've worked with SDM (That's what I'm assuming you're talking about) with our Cisco 2811 in office here and it sucks

Yea, I’m not a big fan of it either—it definitely has it pros and cons, but it is quite useable.

SDM has no target demographic IMO. The people who are going to use something like SDM are the kind of people who could learn Cisco IOS properly.

Anyways, the Cisco is too high-end. I just want stability, not features.

Thanks for the recommendation though.

while its already been said, i'll echo the sentiments for the cisco 800-series. get an 871w used off ebay. pick up a base smartnet for upgrades so you are covered license-wise. configure it as needed. lock it down with a secure password. provide yourself vpn access so you can get in if something breaks without traveling.

if you tell the ceo that its all command-line based and you lock it down and its a device with an obscure password recovery method (well, its not obscure, but it requires special gear and knowledge), it will defer tamper.

plus, i've never had a device more stable than a cisco router. you won't match it with consumer grade gear (possibly zyxel, but i would ping Anav See Profile regarding that stuff).
