Re: [info] AT&T 3g This sort of sucks! If I block data completely, WiFi is still available yes? I remember now, the $30/Month charge is for "unlimited" 3g. Just like the almost forced $5.00/Mo is for 200 SMS messages; otherwise it's $.20/Msg, which runs up the bill very quickly. Highway robbery if you ask me.
Can't wait till VZ supports the iPhone! This was OK while I had some decent income, but now, with the economy as it is, I simply can't afford these "luxuries" any longer. So, it seems blocking all data is the only practical and secure way of shedding the $30/mo fee.

| Bob you can't block the data? As long as you own the iPhone on the ATT network they will charge you $30 a month for data. Doesn't matter if it's 3g or 2g you will get charged.
If your out of contract I would look at getting a cheap cellphone from ebay and sticking your SIM in that. Again that's only if your not in your 2 year contract with the iPhone. |

| You are right! The "options" for required data plan are:
Data Plan for iPhone $30.00 Text--N/A Data--Unlimited Current or Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone $45.00 Text--N/A Data--Unlimited Select
So, this is no-option!
The only possible way to get around this seems to be to get another provider, one which can be accessed by a jailbroken iPhone, get a free/cheap phone from them, transfer my number to the new provider, and then jailbreak the iPhone and put it on the new service.

You can do that, but you will incur the Early Termination Fee from AT&T. Can you afford that, in this economic climate? -- "If I am to die in a Starfleet uniform, I want my death to count for something" - Lt. Natasha Yar, Yesterday's Enterprise, TNG Proud Host of Crunchie #2. |
