[FireFox] FF 3.5 taking forever to load

FF 3.5 takes almost 30 seconds to start cold on a new boot and almost 10 seconds warm.

I have 6 add-ons on a Core2 Quad CPU Q6600, 4 g ram, vista 32, 260 GPU.

The add-ons:
Ad Block Plus
G Mail Notifier
Morning Coffee
Net Video Hunter
Read It Later
Secure Login

The previous version was much quicker.

Any suggestions?

Re: [FireFox] FF 3.5 taking forever to load

Sorry to say, but my FF 3.5 opens just as fast as 3.x. Have you tried starting FF in safe mode? Does the problem continue in that?

The only suggestion I have for this kind of issue is a clean install of FireFox. It's often saves me time and frustration verus the alternative.

I'm having the same issue. A good 10 seconds to load. I've got ABP, RIP and IE tab installed. Cleared out the IE Temporary files and no joy.

Takes 5-15 seconds to load, clean installs on 2 PC's and a laptop. Very annoying.

Re: [FireFox] FF 3.5 taking forever to load

Why the uproar over the slow loading times of 3.5. My 3.0.1.1 was no faster than the current 3.5, which is painfully slow to open.

Prior to my upgrade from 3.x (whatever the latest path release of 3.0 was), I loaded Firefox in a second or two. That's why there's an "uproar".

Either way, it's a browser, not world peace.

Folks might be frustrated, but venting "uproars" at fellow users isn't going to solve a thing. Just as bragging about monster computers isn't going to impress many. Darn things start going obsolete the minute you buy them. Although it's interesting that many who aren't having problems don't run monster computers.

I have a monster of a computer, waiting almost 25 seconds sometimes for my browser to load is kind of... Stupid? Don't you think?

With another browser I would have found what I was looking for by then and closed the browser.

I changed offline caching in about:config to 125mb from 500mb, seems to speed the start up by A LOT.

Does it help with the memory leak after having a lot of tabs open as well?

kav is pretty much a memory hog but a good anti-virus.

I didn't notice the browser loading time being a big issue...my problem has been page loading time...dismal. It felt like I was back on dial-up.

I couldn't stand it anymore....I downgraded to 3.0.0.11

What a relief to be rid of that page hang thing, and the non-functioning drop-downs. It was so bad that when I tried to open a tool bar dropdown, I would get only the Windows shadow for a few seconds and then the menu would appear...sometimes. Other times I had to select it repeatedly before it would respond. NOT GOOD FireFox.....

As soon as it replaced 3.5 with the last 3.0 version, everything was back to normal.

If you have Microsoft Net installed it added an extension (Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant v1.1) to Fx and if you disable or remove that extension it may speed up Fx and reduce crashes.

More info available in this thread at MozillaZine.

I was having the same problem and also pages on ebay are not displaying correctly. I deleted everything to do with firefox and mozilla then reloaded Fx 3.5. It now starts up very quickly and the pages load much faster.

I still have the problem with ebay pages, but at least it's much faster.

This may just be a restatement of the above info, but here is an article that helped me fix my slow startup times. The difference is dramatic.

That is not a fix, it is a work around. Also it does nothing for my slow startup problems.

For reducing startup speed, check this link, it contains a simple .bat file & sqlite3.exe. The trick is FF3.x uses sqlite as a database, its files become internally fragmented over time, this simple batch trick will defragment them.

Rebooted, and started FF3 after using it, I surely saw the difference !

The reason it hangs on load, is because someone, in their infinite wisdom, coded Fx3.5 to read EVERY font-the whole font folder in Windows anyway-on startup. And its checking the Internet Explorer Cache and the central Windows temp folder of the currently logged in user.

I dunno whose bright idea that was but its very very annoying.

What would happen if you deleted all the fonts except the ones you use frequently?

it is likely fonts that are required would be purged too, best left alone

Re: [FireFox] FF 3.5 taking forever to load

What happens if a web page calls for a font that is not on your computer?

ReallydumbFx

@windjammercable.net

Deleting fonts is not an option for me, I create many things in Photoshop and the fonts are a necessity. I really don't think Fx 3.5 should be doing this anyway, any of it.

For the time being I've reverted back to pre-3.5. It does not exhibit the same behavior and is just as good IMO.

Quite annoying. That needs to be changed or at least give end users the option to search them all, or just check system fonts, some kind of option....

That is *&^%$# stupid!! Thanks for the reading. At least I know why it is slow now.

Before upgrading to 3.5, Firefox would start in a second or two. Now, with 3.5, it is taking anywhere from 45 seconds (when it's being "quick") to as long as 2 minutes. Very annoying!

Enough is enough.
I've had enough. I installed 3.0.12 for now. I'll wait until 3.5x comes out and is proven for a week or more.

FF 3.5 truly slower than the previous.
And some plug in can be used on it.
For 3.5 users, you can reduce firefox memory usage, see the tips here
