| [FireFox] FF 3.5 taking forever to load FF 3.5 takes almost 30 seconds to start cold on a new boot and almost 10 seconds warm.
I have 6 add-ons on a Core2 Quad CPU Q6600, 4 g ram, vista 32, 260 GPU.
The add-ons: Ad Block Plus G Mail Notifier Morning Coffee Net Video Hunter Read It Later Secure Login
The previous version was much quicker.
Any suggestions? | |

My 3.0.1.1 was no faster than the current 3.5, which is painfully slow to open. Prior to my upgrade from 3.x (whatever the latest path release of 3.0 was), I loaded Firefox in a second or two. That's why there's an "uproar". Either way, it's a browser, not world peace.
Folks might be frustrated, but venting "uproars" at fellow users isn't going to solve a thing. Just as bragging about monster computers isn't going to impress many. Darn things start going obsolete the minute you buy them. Although it's interesting that many who aren't having problems don't run monster computers.

| I didn't notice the browser loading time being a big issue...my problem has been page loading time...dismal. It felt like I was back on dial-up.
I couldn't stand it anymore....I downgraded to 3.0.0.11
What a relief to be rid of that page hang thing, and the non-functioning drop-downs. It was so bad that when I tried to open a tool bar dropdown, I would get only the Windows shadow for a few seconds and then the menu would appear...sometimes. Other times I had to select it repeatedly before it would respond. NOT GOOD FireFox.....
As soon as it replaced 3.5 with the last 3.0 version, everything was back to normal.

| If you have Microsoft Net installed it added an extension (Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant v1.1) to Fx and if you disable or remove that extension it may speed up Fx and reduce crashes.

| I was having the same problem and also pages on ebay are not displaying correctly. I deleted everything to do with firefox and mozilla then reloaded Fx 3.5. It now starts up very quickly and the pages load much faster.
I still have the problem with ebay pages, but at least it's much faster.

| For reducing startup speed, check this link, it contains a simple .bat file & sqlite3.exe. The trick is FF3.x uses sqlite as a database, its files become internally fragmented over time, this simple batch trick will defragment them.
Rebooted, and started FF3 after using it, I surely saw the difference !

| The reason it hangs on load, is because someone, in their infinite wisdom, coded Fx3.5 to read EVERY font-the whole font folder in Windows anyway-on startup. And its checking the Internet Explorer Cache and the central Windows temp folder of the currently logged in user.
I dunno whose bright idea that was but its very very annoying.

| Deleting fonts is not an option for me, I create many things in Photoshop and the fonts are a necessity. I really don't think Fx 3.5 should be doing this anyway, any of it.
For the time being I've reverted back to pre-3.5. It does not exhibit the same behavior and is just as good IMO.

Quite annoying. That needs to be changed or at least give end users the option to search them all, or just check system fonts, some kind of option....

@rr.com | Before upgrading to 3.5, Firefox would start in a second or two. Now, with 3.5, it is taking anywhere from 45 seconds (when it's being "quick") to as long as 2 minutes. Very annoying!
