How many HD feeds?

How many HD feeds does U-Verse offer now. We have four HD sets in the house and was wondering if all four could be watched at once. Also, this is a three family house, would there be any issues with all floors having just one account? Eight boxes is more than enough.

1.) U-Verse currently only supports 2 HD and 2 SD feeds, we are looking to get those up higher sometime soon, but there's no ETA yet on when that will be.

2.) As for the multiple U-Verse accounts in 1 house, I'm not quite sure, that's more of a billing issue, I would think you can do it, but in order to do so, I think you'll need to somehow show proof that your house is either a duplex, or an apartment before they will do it, but not 100% sure, if you want you can call the 1-800-ATT-2020 number, ask for billing, and ask a CSR there.

If you have any further U-Verse technical questions please feel free to PM me your billing account number and a good call back number.

Thanks, Matt

Re: How many HD feeds?

Hmm, only two at a time? That may be an issue.

As far as the single house goes, we want all floors on the same account. Cablevision requires two accounts. We only want one. It doesn't make sense paying $450 a month when everybody that lives in the house is the same family.

That should be just fine, does your house already have coax/cat 5 jacks run to each room for a cable TV/PC hook up?

Thanks, Matt

Yeah. Every room has coax already. The room that doesn't is split from another room.

As far as cat5 goes, no rooms. Just running from cable modems (two rooms different floors two modems) to router and PC. The rest is done wirelessly.

Ok, what I would suggest is showing the installer how many PC's you have during the initial install, and then they should be able to supply you with an additional switch for more hard wired connections, U-Verse does have wireless on the RG but it depends on the tech, they might want to run hard wire connections (which is the best) or they might want to do wireless, or if it's available in your area, they might want to run the Asoka ethernet over power adapters.

Also you can have someone run ethernet through your entire house before the install, or you can pay per drop when our installer comes out to have it done, being in a huge house (2 stories) if the RG is at the bottom of the house, sometimes you might not get a good wireless signal in certain areas in the top of the house.

Just depends on what you prefer, and what options you think are best for you. Are there any other questions I can answer for you?

Thanks, Matt

It must depend on where you live because I still only have 1 HD stream with Uverse...

Ditto U-Verse is distance sensitive as it is a DSL product. I'm at 3100 ft from the VRAD and only 1 HD stream.

If you are in a city getting the new upgrades and if you are close enough to the VRAD. There is or will be 3hd UV 11 32/5 profile running vdsl2.

When will this new profile be available to existing customers who are close to the VRAD?

When?

What software level in the RG will support VDSL2?

What is UV 11?

Will this profile be provisioned for Internet/Voice-only customers?

1. Not sure when, but I have seen this profile one time already in Oklahoma City. I suspect it will be rolled out kinda like THDVR Phase 2.

2. I believe the current software (5.29.105.94) already supports VDSL2.

3. UV 11 is the name AT&T gives to the 32M/5M 3HD profile.

4. I don't know if the new profile will strictly be based on distance or limited to Video subscribers.

1. new orders within distance (I don't know the footage for this profile yet) are being set with the new profile but are not allowed the new 3hd yet that will be later date that is unknown (I assume soon since we are seeing the profile on orders now.

2. software version is unknown but rg should be able to do vdsl1 or 2

3. that is the name for profile 32/5. uv9 -19/2; uv10 - 25/2; uv11 - 32/5

4. I don't know the answer for this question

Keep in mind that you can have 8 boxes, but only 1 will be a DVR. The rest are all networked back to the main DVR. That scenario works fine (perhaps ideal, even) if you're 1 family that moves around to different TVs alot, but not so much if you have a lot of independent users who are possessive over their DVR space.

This and the fact of only 2/2 streams if you are lucky is the single greatest drawback to the Uverse TV senario for me, currently have 6 HD dvr's with 2 TB hard drives attached to each one for the family. The channel lineup is great and has everything my family would need. If the limitations where removed would switch in a new york minute, not under and contract with my current provider

Looks like I'll have to hold off on u-Verse for a while. The restriction to only four feeds renders it pretty useless for me. When they can get it up to four and four or eight whatever definition, I'll think about it. Until then

Re: How many HD feeds?

I could be wrong, but even when the 2 incoming HD feeds are being used (either watching live TV or recording), can't someone else be watching a recorded HD program? I thought I remembered reading that can happen up to 4 times, creating the possibility of 8 STB's watching different things... Somone correct me?

You are correct. Whenever all live streams are being used, previoulsy recorded programs on the DVR can still be watched.

Yeah that is what is keeping me from placing an order.... Granted, I only have 2 TV's I currently use, (a 3d is not hooked up but will be soon), both of those are HD and one of them has a HD-DVR.

It happens SO MUCH that I am (or my wife is) recording 2 HD programs at the same time, especially at prime time at night....

If I want to tune into an HD channel in the other room, U-Verse is going to deny that when two HD programs are recording?

That's correct it will tell you all HD streams are being used, but if my above post is correct, you COULD watch one of your past recordings (in HD) until a live HD feed frees up.

Just my 2 cents.
