1 edit | Re: [AT&T] Possibly upgrading to Iphone, some questions. said by cyrus360 :Is the access to the net decently quick and easy to navigate with the phone? - 3G is amazingly fast; WiFi is even better.. navigation is just like using any web-browser (the iphone uses Safari) except you use your fingers instead of a mouse I saw something about Jailbreak and other apps for the phone. Any in particular I should look at to increase the functionality of it? - depends on what you need.. over 50,000 apps in the iTunes store so you can probably do what you need. Does the phone play mp3's and/or vids I upload to it? ; it's a friggin iPod, of course it does!! but, you dont "upload", you "sync" with whatever MP3's are in your iTunes library Are there ways to get apps without buying them all through the Apple store? only if you do the aforementioned JailBreaking

| Re: [AT&T] Possibly upgrading to Iphone, some questions. iTunes is a software program that is used to 'sync' apple products. You can let it find and include all your music & videos or just have it include what you want. It will/can use all your current mp3's. All you do in stall the itunes software. Your iPhone needs that software to install your mp3s, your videos, your address book names & numbers, photos on your computer, firmware upgrade, etc. etc. You can choose what to have it sync (load to your iphone).
You also 'store' any of the thousands of applications (many free) that you get from the Apple Store for your iPhone. -- AMD: When you care enough to purchase the best.

Are there any pitfalls I need to avoid?Roaming charges?Internet Access? the biggest pitfall is data-roaming while out of the country - if you are leaving the USA be sure to turn off data-roaming..
Another pitfall is that for $5/mo you only get 200 texts.. if you want more, you have to pay..
internet is unlimited as long as you dont go over ~5GB of usage /mo. (probably not possible)
the AT&T data plan is kinda pricey compared to other providers..

Agree - The first month the wife & I had our iPhones we had a total of just over 250MB data/message useage and we played a lot with it. Can't imaging using 5GB in a month. -- AMD: When you care enough to purchase the best.

| Re: [AT&T] Possibly upgrading to Iphone, some questions. I am skeptical about not being able to use 5gb a month if you have the 3GS model which takes video. They show the commercial where people are taking a video with the phone, editing it on the phone, then emailing it from the phone.
You do a few videos and your "unlimited" $30 plan ends up costing $500. -- »www.freakynorm.com

1 edit | Re: [AT&T] Possibly upgrading to Iphone, some questions. when you email a video or upload it to YouTube directly from the phone, the phone compresses the sh!t out of it, so the file size is pretty small.. I have not done the math, but i think you would have to send thousands of videos and work on it nearly 24/7 to go over the limit on your unlimited data-plan.

| Re: [AT&T] Possibly upgrading to Iphone, some questions. Yeah that makes sense. I think I am going to try it out. It's a bit pricey with the data plan but it will be nice to have internet access while I am in my work truck. -- »www.freakynorm.com | |

Not entirely true on iPhone plans. If you log in and look at your data usage, it's shown as Unlimited.
From mine:
If it is indeed 5GB they need to change it as this is very misleading.

I have not seen it with my own eyes (because i'm not really worried about it) but others have posted that if you look at the contract, there is indeed a limit to your unlimited data plan.. does not matter that the data-usage screen says if the contract says there is a limit to your unlimited usage..

I've managed to rack up about 1/2 of that in a month (around 2.5GB) with using a radio stream app (FStream) while at work. I agree you have to do a lot on the phone to get it there, but I guess it is possible.

| One way to get around the $5.00/month texting limitation is to go to AT&T and sign up for OLAM. (online account management. You don't have to PAY your bill that way if you don't want), there is a link there to enable you to send FREE text. -- Mom and Crockett...... I miss you both! | |

| Yeah I think I am going to try it out. I played with one of the IPhones in Wal-Mart and it seems pretty neat.
I bet a IPhone demo at an Apple store would be sweet but there are none around my neck of the woods.
