Re: Configuring WRT54G for NAS

Thanks d_l.

I wasn't sure if WAN access to a NAS was blocked by default. I figured that from the WRT54G's perspective, the NAS would just be another IP address attached to one of the switched ports. I just wanted to make sure that under no circumstances the NAS's IP address could be reachable from the WAN.

I don't have any experience with NAS, but from what I am reading, there may also be some configuration options available on the NAS that will help to restrict access to just those IP addresses on my LAN.

Generally speaking, WAN access to your proposed NAS should be automatically blocked by default WRT54G settings. Unless you have the WRT54G in DMZ mode or set up specific port forward rules to the NAS for specific ports such as http, FTP, etc. then there will be no WAN access to it.

I have a WRT54G with two PCs on my LAN. I want to purchase a NAS and attach it to the WRT54G.

I would like to allow access to the NAS from both PCs on my LAN, but block all access to the NAS from the WAN.

How would I configure my WRT54G to do that?

My apologies if this has been asked/answered .... I searched the forum and could not find the answer.

Thanks!
