...

I want to start off with an update to our plans for the Windows 7 Family Pack. As I mentioned last month, starting with the launch of Windows 7 on October 22nd, customers will be able to buy a Family Pack in the US & Canada. This allows users to install Windows 7 Home Premium on up to 3 existing Windows PCs for a reduced price. It’s an easy and cost effective way to get customers entire household on Windows 7. It’s an easy and cost effective way to get customers entire household on Windows 7.

I can now tell you of several more countries that will have a chance to take advantage of this great deal: the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden. This will also be a limited offer but is just one more way that our customers can save on Windows 7.

Windows Anytime Upgrade and Family Pack Pricing
Posted by: Brandon LeBlanc 11:02 AM Friday

Most people buy a PC preinstalled with the edition of Windows that meets their unique needs. However, for some customers their needs may change over time.

...

With Windows Anytime Upgrade (or WAU), we make it super easy and convenient for the small number of customers who’s PC needs evolve to need a higher edition of Windows 7.

There are a couple of specific situations where we think WAU will prove useful:

...

Today, most homes have more than one PC in them. When you run Windows 7 on more than one PC on a home network, you can do more with features like HomeGroup. HomeGroup allows people to connect to PCs on their network and share files, music and photos with the whole family – easily. The Windows 7 Family Pack is an easy and affordable way to get all your PCs in your household running Windows 7 through licensing to install Windows 7 Home Premium on up to 3 PCs.

The Windows 7 Family Pack will be available starting on October 22nd until supplies last here in the US and other select markets. In the US, the price for the Windows 7 Family Pack will be $149.99 for 3 Windows 7 Home Premium licenses. That’s a savings of more than $200 for three licenses. This is a great value and we’re excited to be able to offer it to customers.

Thanks, but I checked these retailers and they're all either "sold out" or "discontinued".

Windows 7 pricing: Some users fume as the rose-colored discounts fade
Posted by Mary Jo Foley @ 5:31 am

The dust is beginning to settle a week after Microsoft went public with its Windows 7 retail pricing plans. Now the details (and lack of details) are starting to sink in with some Windows users.

Some customers who jumped to pre-order half-price Windows 7 copies — that are available only through July 11 here in the U.S. – are coming to realize that they might have gotten a raw deal because Microsoft wouldn’t confirm when and whether it planned to offer a Family Pack.

Last week, Microsoft officials refused to disclose whether there would be a Family Pack for Windows 7, via which users could purchase multiple copies at a discount to install across several machines. Enthusiast Kristan Kenney discovered wording in the Windows 7 Home Premium license that indicates strongly that there will be a Windows 7 family pack. Kenney blogged about his discovery on July 2. Some posters on his blog were understandably upset.

Re: [Info] Microsoft to offer Family Pack for Windows 7 Home Pre

Are they saying you will be able to buy Windows 7 for $189 and be able to install it on 3 computers?

I don't understand the way they explain it.

Ordering 3 Windows 7 Home Premiums now would be your best deal @ ~$150.

Microsoft to offer Family Pack for Windows 7 Home Premium
Posted by Ed Bott @ 9:40 pm
...

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Microsoft prices the Family Pack at $189, which is $10 less than Apple’s Family Pack (although Apple’s license is good for five Macs in a single household).

By the way, these same terms are also contained in the license agreement for Windows 7 Home Premium E (the one sold in Europe, sans Internet Explorer), as well as the N, K, and KN Home Premium versions, which are also deliberately gutted of one or more features to satisfy antitrust authorities. The Family Pack language is not included in the license agreement for any other Windows 7 edition.
