| 25/15 is 25/25?... --I posted before in the 25/15 forum but no replies so I'll try my luck with a main post...
So a verizon sales person was at my front door about 15minutes ago. He said in 3 weeks that my block is going to be upgrade that if I were to upgrade the 25/15 from my 20/20 that I should see 25/25 no problem with the upgraded hardware on the 25/15 plan. Anyone work in Verizon can tell me he is BS-ing and trying to make a sale or telling me the truth?
Also I asked him about customers on the 25/15 are seeing 25/25 results will they fix that he said no because basically stating oh the hardware can support. BS or NO?

But yes, the hardware can handle the higher speeds. What is not clear is whether this "fluff" will remain indefinitely or whether it'll go *poof* one day without notice.
There is already one report of a person on 35/20 who was seeing 35/30-35 and is now seeing their advertised rate (35/20). I would rather have had them provision as straight up 25/15 without this fluff crap if they are just going to take it away. I bit the bullet because by bundling I can save some money. But all things being equal, I'd rather have 20/20 than 25/15. -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates

1 edit | Re: 25/15 is 25/25?... My son was just upgraded to 15/5 today. Just had a chance to test it, and it showed 25.5/4.9. My 20/5, in the same CO, always tests 4.5 to 4.6 on the up side, so his 5 up is better than mine ever was.
We're all BPON, built out in 05 - 06. I'm wondering if your level of "fluff" has anything to do with whether you're B or G PON.

| Yeah. I've been keeping up with the forums lately and I asked the salesperson if they were going to take the extra 10meg upload he said "why would we?" and continue to say the network is allowing you to have it why would we take it... which was somewhat baffling to me since whats the points of the 25/25 tier? | |

I tried a couple of servers, that's the best I've seen. The physically closest server in Los Angeles is giving me the worst numbers.

| It seems Speedtest.net servers are becoming overloaded on their upload testing from all of us "fluffy" FiOS users pounding them. I think that's why upload speeds seem to be going all over now. I tested at speedtest.net just now and got 10Mbps up, then went straight to a web100 speed test, and got 24.5Mbps up. (this on a really fluffy 15/5 tier =p )
The speed tests aren't being reliable with our new speeds IMO.

| My understanding is VZ wanted to do 25/25 and 35/35 but legal got involved and, for some reason, said that most up-loaders would not see the full speeds and that is was best to advertise the lower upload. So the company did advertise the lower speeds but is provisioning at the higher. | |

1 edit | Well at least the tech last night seemed much more helpful than the tech from last week . He said that there was a software upgrade in my area to GigE for GPON. And the date he gave me did coincide with the week that my speed problems started.
So maybe they will be able to get things figured out since my speeds should not fluctuate like they are currently.

Last I checked the LED indicated it was set at 100. Which is fine for the moment, since my Actiontec router is only capable of 10/100 WAN/LAN speeds (MoCA up to 175Mbps).

| i've been getting the same thing.
I changed my 50/20 FIOS package + Basic Phone Service (~$120/mo) to their 35/20 FIOS package + Unlimited Local + Long Distance Freedom Essentials Service (~$90/mo).
It seems that even though I purchased 35/20 a few weeks ago as part of the FIOS Double Play package, I'm actually receiving 35/35 as of today.

While I'm happy for you (and others getting this "bonus"), I'm pissed that those of us on 50/20 are currently being "forgotten"/treated basically like shit.
We pay more than double you guys, get less on the downstream, and get far less on the upload.. typically 49-50/20-21.
It's bs. | |

| Re: 25/15 is 25/25?... It's the same for 20/20 people. They are (most likely) paying more than the 25/15 plan, yet are getting 20/20 versus 25/25. Granted, it's a smaller difference in throughput, but it's the same situation.
It's a calculated risk to jump ship from the 50/20 to 35/20 plan, if upstream is your goal. Personally, given the large difference in speeds and the unknown for how long this "fluff" is going to last, I'd stay put with 50/20 and see what happens in August. 20/20 to 25/15 isn't a big difference (although I would definitely prefer 20/20), so I took the risk - and the fact that it was cheaper helped. -- He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have. -Socrates

The only reason I downgraded from 50/20 to 35/20 is because Verizon offered a double play package with Unlimited Local and Long Distance calling + Caller ID and Voicemail for $30 cheaper than what I was paying for 50/20 + Basic local service.
Considering I can barely saturate my 50mb download, it makes financial sense.
That said, I'd love them to upgrade the 35/20 tier officially to 50/35 or maybe even 50/50 with the new highest tier being something like 75/35.
That'd be nice. -- --Natoma
