However no new account was made under the registry key.
Make sure "Windows Fax and Scan" is not running.

Then, open services.msc and "Stop" the Fax service.

Open an "elevated" "Windows Fax and Scan".

Check the registry key that the Fax account was created.

It is not running.

Logged in with another account that worked before. It ran fine.

However no new account was made under the registry key.

Just make sure WFS is not running so you are able to delete the Fax account that was ported using Windows Easy Transfer.

Yes, I used the WET when I went from Vista to Win 7.

It did not create a new account. Same error message.

The instructions say to "turn off WFS". Does that mean to uninstall it or just make sure it is not running??

What is posted in the following link may help:

The "fix" usually works in Vista for the same error and should also work in Windows 7.

The problem may have occurred as a result of using "Windows Easy Transfer" or upgrading a previous Windows install.

What is the exact error message you get?

• After testing trying various things, I think that I might have a corrupt user profile.

• I login with a different account and everything works fine.

• I created another account for me and tested that one and it works fine.

• I renamed my user account under C:\users\myname. I then went into the registry and deleted my SID. Reboot.

• Under my new account, I moved all the data from my old account (except the system files) to my new account. Reboot.

• Login with my new account and it does not work again. Same error message.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on here?

I am having a problem getting WFS to recognize my external MODEM under Win 7 RC x64.

• The MODEM works fine with my HP scanner/FAX.

• Device Manager recognizes the MODEM (external US Robotics v.92) and loads the MS driver.

• Under properties there is a diagnostic to test the MODEM. That works fine.

• In Control Panel under Phone and MODEM, the MODEM is set up.

• AFAIK all needed services are running.

• Going into WFS if I try to setup an account, I click on the non-network MODEM and I get the error message that the WFS cannot find a MODEM. The same goes for if I click on new FAX.

• MS help is not very helpful and searching the Internet resulted in no real revelations.

• I have deleted the MODEM and installed by hand; no joy.

• I uninstalled WSF and then reinstalled it; no joy.

• In Vista, it worked fine.

Any clues would be gratefully accepted.
