[ Extreme] Rogers Norton protection to stop?

I was under the impression that the NOP was supposed to stop on June 30. But my updates are still occurring. Anybody have the scoop on this?

As an aside, I downloaded the Norton Internet Security 2009 for a free 90 trial on one of my computers. I have to say that I am impressed with this - it's the first time in many long years I can say that about a Norton product. Took less than 2 minutes to install from a 100 meg file and set up my entire network (8 devices) instantly. So far so good, but I really haven't run it through its paces.

They are stopping its distribution in favour of ROP, although the product certainly looks questionable in quality and protection for your personal info!

I'm almost certain one of these days there will be another NIS vulnerability though they do seem to have partially improved and sbrook, both products are questionable though ROP is significantly worse.

It's now 18 days after the supposed NOP end date and I keep getting notice from Rogers that the Norton Protection has expired but it has not. I am still getting program and data updates from Norton. Anybody else still getting this??

Yeah, I left it on a PC just to see what would happen. It's still updating fine.

Either: there's a buffer period for "last minute" people to change and it won't actually stop working for a month or two, OR, by continuing to use it Yahoo/Norton is continuing to bill Rogers for the service. I like this option.

Usually Symantec anti-virus subscriptions last a year or two. I'm not sure how it's packaged for Rogers but it could be that the license activates when you install.

What I find interesting is that while the theories above as to why it's still working may apply, Rogers had a method to cut off computers from updating. The way it worked was if you tried to update the Norton online protection on more than 5 computers on one Rogers account, the sixth computer could not until you disabled the online protection from another one.

Well whatever, I purchased a 3 computer version of Norton 2009 but haven't yet installed it. On two pc's I have the old NOP working , on one I have a 90 day trial version of Norton 2009 and on one I tried out the new Rogers product (Crappity McCrapcrap.)

I shall see just how long I can milk the old Norton and let you know when it times out. Thanks for your feedback.
