Or you're driving drunk and crack up the rental car in an accident that was otherwise not your fault, but the cops Breathalyze you, and you fail. You paid the $13 a day or whatever to take out the extra insurance from the car rental company. And you used a credit card, not gift certificates. You still pay for the damage. Both policies are void because breached your contract with the car rental company.

Similarly, you go beyond the area you are authorized to go, the risk is greater, and you broke your contract. You have an accident, you pay. (You can try filing a claim with your own auto insurance company, but just like the other two, they will do anything they can to get out of paying the claim. And you gave them an opening by breaching your contract. They are certainly not going to pay all the charges that the rental company will level at you for going out of the authorized area.)

What you have to ask your self is whether is is worth it to risk possibly thousands of dollars in over mileage fees, or the value of the car if their insurance is not valid outside the agreed area and you wreck it, to save $400 on the front end (value of your gift certificates). I would attempt to negotiate the trip with Enterprise and get it in writing. If the first branch said no, I would check one or two more. Without getting approval, I would not risk it, but that is me.

bkjohnson posted : The last time I rented from Enterprise I mentioned that I might take a day trip a little further south than my destination. The rental person entered that info and told me that the car had a GPS and that I would have been charged a higher rate if I went out of the area that I had originally specified. I would ask Enterprise to clarify restrictions.

Anonuser posted : I use Enterprise quite regulary. I've driven from Milwaukee, Wi to Gearing, Nebraska a few times, thats 1,000 miles each way. And i've done that drive 5 times, each time, round trip was 2 days. So 2,000 miles in 2 days on their cars, they did not care one bit that I put that much mileage on it. So 2,000 miles in 2 days cost me $40 in rental.
--
»KmanScooters.com Home of Wisconsin's Most Affordable Cars, Motorcycles and Scooters
