Ford Canada sales jump 25 percent in June

While everyone else in the industry are having declining sales....

»ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/0907···da_sales

It appears it's Ford's strong truck sales that are helping them as their car sales are down a bit...

Perhaps truck buyers are staying away from GM & Chrysler... Also maybe the recent Toyota truck rust problems are scaring over Tacoma & Tundra buyers to the blue oval...

Actually, it probably has something to do with the fact that they're the only North American auto maker that isn't in total financial ruin and may actually still exist a few years from now.

They are still in a financial pickle in that they have mortgaged the house. But still stronger than the others.

They may not have known it back then, but Ford got lucky several years ago when they had problems similar to what GM now has. The main difference is that back then, you could borrow money with ease. That's what Ford did. They also (slowly) started trimming their worldwide count of different models, and selling of some foreign companies. In other words, their crisis came sooner, and they reacted sooner... back when it was possible to borrow big time. Ford is quite a bit in debt, but it's managable, provided the auto industry recovers soon.

Aside from a continued industry slump, Ford's main worry is a re-vitalized General Motors. GM looks to shed a lot of debt in Chapter 11. If they do, their debt payments will decrease drastically, and they will be able to undercut Ford.

I've wondered recently why Ford was pushing nothing but trucks in its recent commercials. Seeing as how they sell 3 times as many trucks as cars, I understand now. My only question is if its correct to call them an "automaker" as opposed to a "truckmaker".

while "trucks and SUV's" have dominated the domestic landscape over the past decade, Ford has had some recent success stories in their car divisions, with more to follow...the Focus has been a success, so has the Fusion and the Mustang...the new Taurus, New Focus (Euro spec) and the Fiesta will ensure the momentum continues to push forward....it is why i said to buy Ford stock back around Christmas when it was $2/share (it closed at $5.89 today)...that's triple your money folks.

i am not (remember, i have $1200 worth of Nortel stock, well, $1200 that i paid for, which is currently worth maybe $2).

but Ford started their restructuring almost 5 years ago...the "current" mess hit them a few years ago, so they were already on the path to fix things...as well, they have put a strong focus on their cars over the last couple of years (and in the years to come), which is what will be needed to get over the hump.

ford's F150 has been the best seller in many north american markets for years anyway, and yes...with GM's and chrysler's problems. That market share should get stronger.
i was at the dealership yesterday getting a oil change done, and the service manager said they can't get enough F150's to meet demand.
at least the ford brass and their share-holders where able to restructure some of ford's debt issues.
cooperation that seem to be lost at GM and chrysler.

My hope with Ford is that they still push ahead with their cars. The problem began when they focused merely on Trucks and SUV's.

It will be a better positive sign if we see their car sales go up. North Americans seem to have a short term mind in regards to gas prices.

I don't know why anyone needs a F-150, unless you work a job that requires a truck. You are a hillbilly.

I do love the Ford Flex, but it needs to be lowered.

Every company everywhere uses a Ford F-series as their fleet truck. They are also very popular with companies that don't purchase fleet vehicles. Strong sales are a reflection of that.

Yet GM outsells Ford by 2 to 1 when GMC and Chevy pickup sales are combined.

As Chrysler discovered a few months ago, one month sales do not a trend make.

Exactly, however since it is an American company, Ken is on the hills preaching that the American Car industry is saved.

Yet I don't recall Chrysler reporting a 25% increase in sales.

It may not be totally saved as of yet but this is the second or third time in 6 months that we have seen this kind of news out of Detroit so I think that things are starting to look up.
