Actually, it probably has something to do with the fact that they're the only North American auto maker that isn't in total financial ruin and may actually still exist a few years from now. |

They are still in a financial pickle in that they have mortgaged the house. But still stronger than the others. |

They may not have known it back then, but Ford got lucky several years ago when they had problems similar to what GM now has. The main difference is that back then, you could borrow money with ease. That's what Ford did. They also (slowly) started trimming their worldwide count of different models, and selling of some foreign companies. In other words, their crisis came sooner, and they reacted sooner... back when it was possible to borrow big time. Ford is quite a bit in debt, but it's managable, provided the auto industry recovers soon.
Aside from a continued industry slump, Ford's main worry is a re-vitalized General Motors. GM looks to shed a lot of debt in Chapter 11. If they do, their debt payments will decrease drastically, and they will be able to undercut Ford.
I've wondered recently why Ford was pushing nothing but trucks in its recent commercials. Seeing as how they sell 3 times as many trucks as cars, I understand now. My only question is if its correct to call them an "automaker" as opposed to a "truckmaker". |

| while "trucks and SUV's" have dominated the domestic landscape over the past decade, Ford has had some recent success stories in their car divisions, with more to follow...the Focus has been a success, so has the Fusion and the Mustang...the new Taurus, New Focus (Euro spec) and the Fiesta will ensure the momentum continues to push forward....it is why i said to buy Ford stock back around Christmas when it was $2/share (it closed at $5.89 today)...that's triple your money folks. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| i am not (remember, i have $1200 worth of Nortel stock, well, $1200 that i paid for, which is currently worth maybe $2).
but Ford started their restructuring almost 5 years ago...the "current" mess hit them a few years ago, so they were already on the path to fix things...as well, they have put a strong focus on their cars over the last couple of years (and in the years to come), which is what will be needed to get over the hump. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |
