 | Didn't know any cable company in the past offered FM radio through cable in the NY metro area. Heard of it from other areas/providers but not here. |

I think many cable companies did this. In the old days before there were stereo TVs, they also simulcasted the premium movie channels in stereo on FM. -- with every mistake we must surely be learning |

 | reply to Olias I really miss DMX. That was an awesome service. The remote had that cool little display with title/artist/album info. |

I remember the "remote" box I had (late-'70s-early '80s) was a 2-piece deal with a "slider" channel selector connected by a long wire to the cable box itself. I'm pretty sure it was UA Columbia back then in Northern NJ.
[EDIT] Here is an actual UACC "Community Bulletin Board" from 1982:

[EDIT] February 27th in 1982 was on a Saturday, so this can't be 1982... I guess it's somewhere in the '80s. LOL
[EDIT 2] I'm guessing it's 1980.
[EDIT 3] Since the Weather Channel started in 1982, this must be 1985. |

 | the old boxes with wired remotes were Jerrold JRX-3 and yes with the 12 buttons and slider on the left side. Slides between 3 channel groups: Channel 2-13, A-L, M-W
yes in those days channels above 13 were letters |

Here are some pics of old boxes:

Still selling them for cheap on that site.
Jerrold Electronics was bought by General Instrument, which was in turn bought by Motorola...alot has changed in that time. I still remembering having the black Jerrold/General Instrument boxes only 10 years ago and further back. Also remember a few people I knew how easy it was to descramble premium channels along with free PPV with those boxes as well. |

I had that woodgrain looking Jerrold box.. The best was having to fine tune the stations with the knob on the right |

LOL! When I was a kid, I lived in an area that was serviced by Suburban Cablevision (now Comcast). We had those Jerrold boxes too. You used to be able to sort of see the softcore stuff if you push the 2, 4, and 7 buttons all at the same time, and roll the wheel on the right all the way to the top. Ahh, the good old days!! |
