4 edits | LOL.. I remember the "remote" box I had (late-'70s-early '80s) was a 2-piece deal with a "slider" channel selector connected by a long wire to the cable box itself. I'm pretty sure it was UA Columbia back then in Northern NJ.

Still selling them for cheap on that site.
Jerrold Electronics was bought by General Instrument, which was in turn bought by Motorola...alot has changed in that time. I still remembering having the black Jerrold/General Instrument boxes only 10 years ago and further back. Also remember a few people I knew how easy it was to descramble premium channels along with free PPV with those boxes as well. | |

LOL! When I was a kid, I lived in an area that was serviced by Suburban Cablevision (now Comcast). We had those Jerrold boxes too. You used to be able to sort of see the softcore stuff if you push the 2, 4, and 7 buttons all at the same time, and roll the wheel on the right all the way to the top. Ahh, the good old days!! | |

| I thought I posted this yesterday but must not have submitted the post now button... Growing up, I lived in a town that was split down the middle -- we had Brookhaven Cable Television, many of my friends had Viacom (now CV of Hauppauge).
We used the Jerrold box on the top for many years.. I distinctly remember that when MTV became available to us, it was carried on Channel 'S'.
My friends that lived in the Viacom areas used boxes like the 2nd box, which was made by Oak.
