Growing up, I lived in a town that was split down the middle -- we had Brookhaven Cable Television, many of my friends had Viacom (now CV of Hauppauge).

We used the Jerrold box on the top for many years.. I distinctly remember that when MTV became available to us, it was carried on Channel 'S'.

My friends that lived in the Viacom areas used boxes like the 2nd box, which was made by Oak.

LOL! When I was a kid, I lived in an area that was serviced by Suburban Cablevision (now Comcast). We had those Jerrold boxes too. You used to be able to sort of see the softcore stuff if you push the 2, 4, and 7 buttons all at the same time, and roll the wheel on the right all the way to the top. Jerrold Electronics was bought by General Instrument, which was in turn bought by Motorola...alot has changed in that time. I still remembering having the black Jerrold/General Instrument boxes only 10 years ago and further back.
