Probalby becasue he put a cap on the line to leak test it.
He should have left it capped off until the open end was secured with the female quick connect fitting. Dumb.

If this is a new installation why is there pipe dope on the nipple? What is the green coating inside the black iron pipe?

What kind of plumber uses used parts?

It is outside. Get some pipe dope at HD and tighten the quick connect. Make some solution of dishwashing soap and water and pour it on after you are done. A leak will appear as hundreds of tiny bubbles (unless you have a big leak and then it will be a large obvious bubble). You will be good to go.

And yes it looks like he used a used pipe.

Who said it was a plumber?
Ah because plumbers install NG pipe. If he is a Gas Fitter.

Approved solution: dishwashing soap and water!

And apply a liberal gas leak test with an approved solution after when done.

I don't think they sell many if any NG grills without a quick disconnect.

It is most likely that the 'rents did not tell the installer, and he assumed that they where going to make a more permanent connection, instead of a quick connect. Which yes, you never assume anything.

I think it's shitty that the installer didn't put the quick connect on.

'Course we don't know what they paid or if they had the grill then but I think all of these quick connections are the same size.

Or pipe dope if they have it sitting around.

You left out, that the tape has to be the Yellow Gas only tape, not the White tape. Personally, I would call back the person that did the job, and have them come out & install the Quick Connect, since it was paid to be done in the first place.

The quick disconnect.

Make sure you use at least Teflon tape on the new brass fitting. Easy as pie, just use a real wrench to firm it up.

Just get the correct size

My parents recently had someone hookup an external gas line for them. The installer left them with the attached hookup but the BBQ line does not fit. What am I missing?

Thanks for the help.
