Moen Filter ClearChoice 9500

When we bought our current house it came with a box of 2-3 filters for the Kitchen Sink.

It is a Moen Filter ClearChoice 9500 filter.

I can find it on the Moen US site for $30 each replacement filter. They don't seem to ship to Canada.

Anyone know where I can get these replacements in Canada? You'd think if they sold the sink here, the filters would be sold too. They are not at the Home Depot, Lowes or etc.

There are some US suppliers who carry them. Do they ship to Canada?

That's uncomfortably close to the Brown's line area in Etobicoke -- look out for out-of-control Jaguars and foul-mouthed surly locals!

Thanks I was wondering why that thread was locked.

Devanchya, how long do those filters last? I had used the 'attach to tap Brita filters' and they barely last a month and are costly to replace.

6 - 8 months depending on how often we use it. Normally you can get another 2 months out of it after the light starts flashing to warn you.

Ajax has some preety heavy water (No Pickering Nuke Jokes!) with a lot of lime.

The Water does work better with the filter.

A bit OT, but related to filters. On the weekend I took it upon myself to check why the water pressure was low at the cottage. This is a system that pulls water from the lake, filters it three times then has a UV light for biologicals. My father in law has done nothing with it since it was installed 2 years ago. I shut down the water and took the filters out. They were messy, to say the least. The filters themselves are actually tightly wound string. I took the hose to them and cleaned them the best I could and washed out the housings. I also remove the UV light and cleaned it so that light would actually go through it.

Pressure fixed The filters probably need replacing or at least cleaned with a pressure washer, but it worked.

Re: Moen Filter ClearChoice 9500

Is there some kind of pre-filter at the water intake in the lake? I can't imagine these "string" filters doing the job of pulling out gross contaminants before dealing with the smaller particles.

I believe there is a screen down there, but never seen anyone do anything with it in almost 10 years now. There were no large items on the filters, just small, small things.

Yup same here - the foot valve at my cottage is in a box I made that is about 1 cubic foot - made from bolted together pieces of aluminum - and covered in stainless steel screen. I rarely ever even look at that - once every few years I pull it out of the lake and spray it with a super-soaker water gun to clean the sludge off it. I do keep it "suspended" - it's in about 8 feet of water - I have a concrete block, 3 feet of rope, the intake, 2 feet of rope, and a 3 gallon water bottle tied to it -- that way the water bottle that floats it is still about 3 feet below the surface - below the ice line.

Those string-wound cartridges are only a few dollars - not worth the effort to pressure-wash them. I have a very similar setup at my cottage - the pump sucks water from the lake - between the pump and the captive air tank I have 2 of the string wound 5 micron "particulate" cartridge filters run in parallel. Coming out of the tank I have a carbon cartridge to remove taste, and then finally a cylindrical UV light treatment unit. From there the water runs from the pump house up to the cottage. I change all 3 of my filters as well as use an alcohol soaked rag to clean the UV filter every spring when I turn the system back on. I think the string-wound filters can be had in a 2 pack for something like $10-$12.
