Re: Just moved, new line stats

What Bicephale? No plug for DSL_Statscope? This would seem the ideal case for using that tool.

Hiquin... You should try as Bicephale suggests and enable the experimental area by checking it off in the Misc menu of DMT. Crank the SNRM slider all the way to the top and click on apply/resync. See what speed connection you get and how long it holds before resync. If you want to invest some time, I would suggest that you do use DSL_Statscope to monitor and save your modem stats on a 10 second snapshot interval. You will be able to see if there are periods of electrical interference ( noise ) throughout the day that affect your connection. Once you map out the condition of your line for several days, you can use that as a baseline to measure the effect of anything else that you might do to improve your stats.

If all fails, then it's time to look at Rogers; that was my unfortunate outcome :^(

You do have the option to tweak already:

But cost of the trade-off to be made may be too high on this product...

Hi,

You may want to try a TP-Link TD-8841 for its excellent tweaking abilities:

Your attenuation levels being very different the final results would differ too,
of course...

RCO figures near 90 % are not a good thing.

My line used to be in the 62-63dB attenution range and I was struggling to maintain my 1728/384 interleaved profile. Eventually, a technician cut dead ahead and my attenuation dropped to 55dB (as reported by my Speedtouch Home at the time). This eventually made a 1728/640 profile stable - at least for a few years.

Currently my line is at 2496/800 and my line started off quite similar to yours when I switched from an HSA to a g.dmt-based modem.

demarc to test from?
Not that I've been able to find,

the one Bell box I found at ground level just has the 4 wires to the 4 nuts and bolts in it.

There is another box up just under the edge of the roof right by where the telephone wire connects to the house, but I'd need to climb up there with a ladder and my laptop and modem. gotta buy a ladder before I can do that, haha..

Did some research, looks like the map I had been looking at before showed the CLOSEST CO to me, but thats not the one I'm hooked up to in this area.

I looked up a neighbours phone number, it's 519-936-#### according to that, with Telcodata.us the CO I'm hooked up to is at 286 RECTORY ST, which is 5km away, right next to where I used to live. No wonder my line stats are crap now and were great before.

Am I out of luck here? it's all based on how Bell wired up this area right? even though theres another CO closer? Am I going to have to switch to *gulp* cable?!??? God I hope not!

P.S. I have posted about this in the teksavvy direct forums as well, so maybe they can help me!

it re-syncs every now and then, I had just rebooted the modem when I took that shot. it's been up for 56 minutes now.

I'm in old South in London, closest major intersection is probably Wharncliffe and Horton/Springbank.

I'm actually "closer" to the nearest CO then I was when I was over at York and Adelaide. and I had a 5MB fastpath there..

Does it stay connected or does it constantly re-sync? Your DMT snapshot shows less than 2 minutes of uptime.

An interleaved connection should help with the error counts, but if the line is not stable, you're going to have to make some choices.

Yeah look at the errored seconds on the side. 67 in only 111 seconds of uptime!

Yep pretty bad.

I'd get in touch with Teksavvy (I like the direct forum here) and have them look at your profile.

A 1728/640 interleaved profile might be stable.

I find it odd that the downstream power isn't even maxed out to the usual 19.5 dbm.

I'm surprised you have sync much less a usable signal. You're at the limit with 5.5 dB SNR, 63 dB attenuation. At about 5.3 km from the CO or remote, I'd guess, you're pretty well at the limits.

See: »teksavvy.com/en/support.asp?ID=7&mID=2

Whereabouts in London (major cross streets)?
