Odd phone-jack to usb internet connection - How to network

My aunt in Italy subscribes to ADSL through a popular Italian ISP called 'Alice.' The modem she uses consists solely of a PHONE-JACK to USB adapter. This creates a problem in running this connection into a wireless router, as I am only familiar with routers that have ETHERNET inputs. Any suggestions as to how I can attach this connection to a router?

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thank you!

The adapter won't help. By using Internet Connection Sharing, you could send the signal into a router to then be shared with other devices. I used to do it in the bad old days of dial-up.

It means leaving the primary computer on, though and ICS has its own idiosyncrasies that make using it less fun than using only a router. Can she request a "real" modem or will they allow her to use one she purchases?

Using ICS with XP:
