To be honest, I think it's your Belkin Router. I had one before, I tend to buy a few of them just to try out new ones. My Belkin was having the same issues, random disconnects. Was a huge issue on my Xbox live. Even with everything set properly, firewall, portforward, new firmware etc... it was still doing it.
I would try using a new router. I recommend either Linksys or D-Link, but there are lots of good ones out there.
Try it without the router and see what happens, and yes, you have to unplug your modem if you're going to go from being hooked up to the router to being hooked up directly to the computer. Let the modem hand out a new ip address based on the new mac address.
