Why did adding splitters decrease my downstream power levels?

Or is that how it works? Downstream power levels decrease and upstream power levels increase when it pertains to splitters?

Poway, CA		 That's right- if you add attenuation (from a splitter or any other method) to your line, the downstream power will decrease and the upstream power will increase.
