Hmm ok but there is an option not to use it correct? Generally if you don't know the charges you wouldn't use a service like that.

If you read that again, you'll realize what's going on ...

1) Anyone calling you collect may not realize that this is NOT a Bell call box without looking closely

2) Anyone calling you collect may not realize that if the person he's calling accepts that person is going to get dinged at $4 per minute

3) In accepting a call, the person receiving the call hasn't a clue that it's from a 3rd party callbox and is being charged at $4 per minute.

If you are in a situation that you have to make a collect call, generally it's got to be an urgent matter and if there aren't many call boxes around, you're relieved you've found a phone at all, never mind if it's a Bell one! In some areas you won't find a Bell phonebox at all! So, you can't blame the caller for not necessarily realizing.

Next the per minute charge is absurd, since the cost of the call is the cost of the call plus a handling fee. In this case, for a 1 min local call it's a 50c call plus a $3.50 handling fee. A 10 minute local call would be a 50c call plus a $39.50 handling fee!!! This is gouging beyond belief!

I would go to the Quebec Consumer Protection people too ... they seem to have stronger protection laws than many provinces ... »www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/
