you could try removing the memory completely, and hitting the power button. If the system power light comes on but makes absolutely no noises with the memory out, you can suspect a bad board.
If it makes beeps, its a good indication your board is OK and may just be the display.
You could turn it on and let it run long enough that it usually takes to get to the operating system, and see if the Caps Lock key, Scroll Lock key lights turn on when the appropriate buttons are pressed.
If there is any lights that normally come on when the system is turned on, that do not come on now, thats a good indication the board is shot.
motherboard replacement really isn't difficult. it IS time-consuming and you wind up with a lot of screws, different sizes of course, and then generally there are some internal components that have to be removed. I usually use a piece of paper to document the screws (back cover, LCD, top right corner, bottom left corner, modem, pci device, whatever). I have even made a diagram of the system and put the screws on the paper where they came out of -- Yes. the cat in my avatar is indeed mine. |
