| SIP Broker access Trying to find out if anyone knows if ViaTalk has an access code for SIP Broker. I know I can call using a SIP URI (i.e. 1777xxxxxxx@in.callcentric.com), but I'm looking for something that can actually be dialed (my IP Phone does not have [a-z] or @ on the dial pad).
SIPBroker.com says I can dial into VT by accessing SIP Broker and then dialing *507. Unfortunately, they do not list the access codes to get to SIP Broker from the different peers.
I searched VT's FAQ's and the only entry I find is titled how to dial numbers using SIP URI's, but it only addresses how to call into VT and nothing about dialing out. And, yes, I've searched here, but nothing about a SIP Broker access code. |

We do not have an access code that can be dialed to reach SIP Broker. It's too bad since number@ISP.COM is pretty much impossible to dial on a standard phone. Yes, I know how to set up a speed dial and I've even used my dial plan to convert 411, but a star code would be really nice. Looking at SIPBroker.com, it appears many voice services have such ability, but VT can't figure it out?  |

I know what you mean, they broke call transfer with the upgrades and it was a great feature. |

Never used sip borker but you might be able to work with this in dial plan.
<** :>1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0 <:@richmond-1a.vtnoc.net>
This was an old backup I used to have in my dialplan. If the main server was down I would dial **1nnnxxxyyyy and it would used the richmond server instead. |

Thanks, but the desire is to be able to call OTHER SIP numbers. SIPBroker appears to be a good clearing house where you can "dial" through to other carriers. For example, as a CallCentric customer I can dial **275*5071NxxNxxxxx to reach a VT number and not have to use +1NxxNxxxxx@incoming.vnoc.net in a speed dial entry.
Personally, I believe IP to IP to IP calls will be better quality than IP to PTSN to IP. Plus, dialing an access number (like **275) gives the best flexibility so I don't need to be online to enter the SIP URI address.
Yes, there are other features that need more attention, but you never know when some of these corner cases will provide unpredicted benefits. So I hope they put it on the list. |

I was able to complete test call with Requires # at end of number

Down side is you have to have 3 *
ie ***011 1 88888 #
Full 11 digit might be
<** :>*xxx1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0 <:@sipbroker.com>
Or am I just not getting what you are trying to do.
Just realized you are using an ip phone so this might not work for you. |

Thanks DCurrey... I did some digging on the SIPBroker.com site and they suggested pretty much the same thing. They even claim if you pass a number to @sipbroker.com and it does not pass the number should go out via your VoIP service. I haven't played much with it, but if that's the case then the dialplan would be fine.
Also, for those that don't mind long dial strings, if you have family/friends outside your local calling area, SIPBroker has many local numbers that can be dialed and then *5071NxxNxxxxx should put them on your VT service. I haven't tested this out so there may be some exceptions, but these days, cost savings are welcomed where ever they show up. |
