No like I said since Shaw has no contracts and as of far been really reliable I've only had it for a couple of months now, I would use Telus if they can up my speed. But they said they're not changing the phones lines anytime soon. And as for hardware, Motorola Surfboard modems are not any better than the Thomsons/Siemens stuff from Telus it's all the same garbage. Telus had it right in 99 when they started offering the Linksys ADSL3 but for some reason went cheap with D-Link and the above mentioned companies. |

| reply to Edm_customer A. Thomson Speed Touch STV.1xx is GARBAGE we have one at our office and it dies all the time needing to disconnected and reconnected. B. Siemens SE567 another piece of GARBAGE will work nicely until it starts locking up, SE567 isn't a big problem the problem is that Telus people will try to walk you through troubleshooting by putting a cheap password (1234567890) and a simple WPA SSID. And if that all fails they'll tell you they're sending you a new one and you'll never get it. |

Pretty typical - such a result has been reported many times by users on these forums. Sometimes the CSRs can't get their act together no matter how clearly you state your situation. Well, I had switched out my phone cord with a brand new one, tried different jacks and connected the modem directly to the comp instead of through my router. Same result. The status light on the 300i doesn't even blink anymore (it stays solid until I unplug/plug back in several times.) and the other day when I turned it on, the LEDs were flashing like they were having a seizure. haha.
It still takes a long time to connect. And when it does, my speed is now only 20k/sec. Anyway, I gave the help desk a call on Friday, and I had a hard time convincing them it was the modem as well. They were going to send me a wireless modem but I requested the Thomson modem, as suggested here. Now I'm just waiting to see what I get! |

| Hey everyone,
Well, after 8 years of use, my poor D-Link DSL-300i is starting to pack it in. It takes a good half hour or more to get a connection, and when it does, my download speed is around 50k/sec (normally around 650k/sec, Telus 6.0).
I'm going to have to call Telus to have a replacement sent out. I'm just curious what will most likely be sent to me. Is there still an option of getting a just plain old modem, or do they only send out those wireless gateway/router/firewall ones now? I would really like to keep on using my Linksys router if possible...
If I do have to get one of the newer ones, is it easy to disable the wireless/router/firewall features?
Thanks in advance! |
