New router need to notify Comcast?

I haven't been using a router (Linksys WRT54GL) at all till now, only a cable modem. Do I have to notify Comcast if I begin to use one? Thanks.

 When you hook it up to your cable modem just make sure you restart your modem. To do this on a normal modem, just unplug it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. On an eMTA hit the reset/restart button on the back (this will cut off the phones in the home for a few minutes).

Fort Lauderdale, FL		 If your going to hook up the router between your PC and the Comcast modem - then I THINK you might want to look up about cloning your PC's MAC address into the router's menu. - I been wrong before. Ask around some more. Google is your friend.

Nah. MAC cloning is typically not necessary.

As far as MAC addys go, they don't really care about the device is directly connected to the LAN port of the modem.

 A couple of tips:
For security, change the router default password, and disable remote administration if that is an option.
For wireless, use WPA security, it's more robust than WEP. You really don't want everyone within range of your signal to be able to connect using your internet.
If you're not using the wireless radio, turn it off, you can still use the router LAN/WAN wired.

 I have situation down here in Florida where Comcast does care about the MAC address your device is reporting. Changing your router will change the default MAC address, so we have to use the cloned MAC address [or just record the old one and input it into the new router].

Why here and not there?

Comcast online tech support had no clue.

 Normal registration of your modem's MAC suggests the modem not be connected to a router during this process. Once the Modem is registered, connecting a router would not change your viewable registered Modem MAC. If you can't get online after connecting a router, it's not a Comcast issue, but rather your network issue.
