iPhone no-service and passcode locked after 3.0 update

I updated my iPhone and my wife's to 3.0 a little while ago (finally got around to it). Mine went perfect but something wrong happend with my wife's phone.

Her phone now has "no service" and I can't connect it to iTunes because iTunes say the phone is locked with a passcode. I can't unlock the passcode because the phone has no service. So - I'm totally stuck.

I've tried reading around but can not find a solution. I did run across something recommending that you turn off phone passcodes before upgrading. I had no idea.

Any thoughts? I can't see a way out of this.

Does it say PUK code or just passcode? Have you ever had a passcode on the phone due to being hooked up to an Exchange server?

Take her sim card out of her phone and pop it in yours. See if she has service, if it does then pop it back in the iphone and see if it will trigger service.

If that doesn't work see if you can do a full restore then restore it from a backup.
