[connectivity] 5 minutes up time before loosing connection

For a year and a half I've had a problem-free Verizon 3meg dsl connection, no slowdowns ever, consistant 2885/697 performance, no hassles until this week. Now I have to cycle my modem off for 5 minutes to regain dsl connection only to lose that connection within 5 minutes.
I have a Westell 6100 bridged to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The power, ethernet and dsl lights will work on the modem but the green internet light never comes on, when the modem is cycled the internet light glows very dim red until the dsl light stops blinking, then the internet light stays off. I've checked all my house wiring and it works with no static on my phone, I have a dedicated Cat5 line I installed to the NID only for the dsl modem. No splitter/filter on that line. Moved the router and modem to other line jacks in the house and the same problem exists. The modem feels quite warm to the touch. If I could stay on line longer, I could do a new diagnostic but when it was working fine the stats were:
Dsl speed 3355/863
Margin 31.0/13.0
Line att 16.0/8.0
Trans Power 17.2/12.1

Offhand I assume the modem is going bad but I wanted to check with the professionals here on the forum.

If it wasnt for my neighbor having an unsecured wireless network, I would not be writing this but instead be trying to deal with Verizon support.
Oh, I almost forgot, the dsl light stays green even though the connection to the internet is lost.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same exact problem.
Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3360 832
Margin (dB) 14.0 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 39.5 28.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 17.8 11.8
Connection Name Connection Duration Status Number of Reconnects
My Connection 00:08:04 UP 56

Extremely frustrating, although my internet light works.
I use a Westell 6100 aswell, no router.

After 70 minutes on the phone to India, they gave in and arranged to ship me a new modem.

There's nothing wrong with your line. Since your modem is in bridged mode, it's normal for the Internet light to be dark. It will turn slightly red during boot. It will be green/red if the modem is managing the connection.

@ The poster above: Your problem is with your upstream margin and sync. Proper sync rate for that package is 864kbps. Also, upstream attenuation is typically half of the downstream attenuation. Plug your modem into your NID and post up the stats from the NID.

Connection Name Connection Duration Status Number of Reconnects
My Connection 00:09:20 UP 100
^^ 44 disconnects since I last posted

Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3360 864
Margin (dB) 14.0 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 39.5 28.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 17.8 11.9

My stats fluctuate alot at least my margin does,
Upstream is usually 864.
Margin i've seen 2-->16
I didnt always have this problem just the past 2 weeks, my line attenuation hasn't changed though.
I don't have access to my NID

Hmm, looks like Verizon is the issue after all LOL

After reseting my modem to default mode the internet light still did not work. The only reason I placed the modem in bridge mode was I could not connect to the internet with the ethernet cable in the internet port on my router.

yeah, for the last couple hours tonight, my connection keeps timing out too. no sync for about 1 minute and then it resyncs. verizon is always the problem. has nothing to do with your internet or computer settings.

Yeah, I was working on line this morning riding my neighbor's unsecured wireless network. He's pretty far away and I was getting a lot of drop-outs (probably everytime his dog walked by his router) so about noon I fired up my dls modem and router and it's been trouble free all afternoon. Not as fast as before but better than putting up with his weak signal.

My old modem has been on line for almost 12hrs straight. The new one should be delivered mid week.

Why cant Verizon just admit they messed up?

I wish I could say the same, connection issues still persist, considering canceling service
