| What is DOCTORPING telling me here? »/beta/doctorpi···6b769c4f
"Sorry, 114 pings gave errors or timeouts. 64 from 103 IPs were reachable. - no record will be made."
Does this indicate a problem with my Internet? Or, is DoctorPing not fully functional?
Thanks! | |

So, I tried DoctorPing and this is what I got... what exactly does it mean?

1 edit | It means that most of those servers that were chosen are either offline, behind firewalls, or for whatever the reason is are not pingable.
The response times to the servers that are returning ping seem decent.
That is the wrong test to use for troubleshooting your issue.
First try trace routing to the game servers that you frequent.

| Re: What is DOCTORPING telling me here? Yes, I guessed it was the wrong test (hence the question about it's results), but I've tried everything else...
My gaming is on XBOX live. No particular server is involved. That's why it's difficult to figure out what is going on. Thought maybe DoctorPing might show something new.
It's looking more and more like maybe the XBOX hardware is the problem... but I can get and play games... they just aren't very playable - lot's of lag, lot's of framerate issues, etc. My shots often don't seem to effect my opponents. They can shoot me before they can see me, etc.
Oh well. | |

3 edits | Do you have any issues with general web browsing/downloads.
You said "levels are fine", but what do your modem's signal stats actually look like ?
Try performing some extended pings to your WAN (Comcast) default gateway.
Is your Xbox connected via a wired or a wireless connection ?
Maybe you have some local wireless issues ?

| Re: What is DOCTORPING telling me here? XBOX is wired. All of my PCs are wired.
Web browsing seems fine. Occasionally I have to refresh when a click doesn't seem to take (maybe once every 30 clicks).
Extended pings to various sites show 0 packet loss.
My gaming did seem to improve last night a little after midnight or so - maybe my neighborhood is just oversold?
Levels are fine (I think):
Acquire Downstream Channel 555000000 Hz Locked Connectivity State Operational Operational Boot State OK Operational Security Enabled BPI+
Downstream Channel
Modulation 256QAM Channel ID 36 Provisioned Rate 17600 kbps Symbol Rate 5360.537 Ksym/sec Downstream Power -6.4 dBmV SNR 39.4 dB
Upstream Channel
Modulation 16QAM Channel ID 5 Provisioned Rate 2200 kbps Symbol Rate 2560 Ksym/sec Upstream Power 46.5 dBmV
Basically, I cannot put my finger on it. It's consistently poor (shots seemingly don't register), but usually not horrible (maybe 1 in 10 games is downright unplayable). There's nothing wrong with my connection as near as I can tell, but I don't have another XBOX I can try out. I'll have to see about getting a new one someday, maybe.
Thanks for the help. | |

| Re: What is DOCTORPING telling me here? Here's some more info:
Ping statistics for 68.85.178.201: Packets: Sent = 10000, Received = 9997, Lost = 3 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 208ms, Average = 12ms
This took a couple of hours this morning. Note that the line was being used throughout the house (3 PCs total), so I don't read too much into the 208ms spike or the 3 (out of 10000) lost packets. Just showing that I'm fairly certain my connection is pretty good.

Remove the router from the path and connect the Xbox directly to the modem. Remember to powercycle the modem when doing so and again when returning the router to the mix.
Same result ? | |

| Re: What is DOCTORPING telling me here? (NEW INFO - NEW THEORY) said by EG :Wanna' eliminate this as being a router issue ? Sorry, should have mentioned...
I've tried removing the router. I've tried a different router.
My router is a Linksys WRT54GL with the latest firmware. My alternate router was a netgear (forget which model).
My modem is a BEFCMU10 V4.
I even relocated my modem so that it is directly off the outside splitter (about 3 feet from it, cablewise).
I HAVE A NEW THEORY:
Today I was able to play most of the day and it was GREAT... until about 7:00pm - then it started to suck again in the same manner as before.
Usually I only play at night, after about 9:00pm, so this was the first time I've tried daytime play in a while.
I'm pretty certain now that my neighborhood is simply oversold/saturated or something like that. Evening arrives and everybody is online.
Any ideas what I can do about it?

You have yet to post any comparative extended pings to your WAN default gateway and some traces to random sites when things are good, and again when they are bad which may help to support your theory..
