| ok so bintube newsreader is actually pretty damn cool I've been using bin tube for a few days now and I actually really like it.
The process that I use is a bit excessive but I think it's quicker than using a web browser based indexer
I open newsleecher and bintube at the same time. I go into newsleecher and use super search to find what I need ( I really like supersearch, by far my fav way to get files just because of the speed, and I find binsearch.info doesn't bring up a lot of results if you put in say, "simpson 720p 02e21", while supersearch generally gets you it really fast ).
I find what I want, then I download the single .nzb file. I have bintube set up to auto download .nzb files in the folder that newsleecher downloads to, bintube then moves the .nzb file so it doesn't redownload when you start it next time.
After about a minute of downloading, bintube starts to play the video file and it downloads faster than I can watch the 720p content so no buffering issues.
I've only used it for a few days, and haven't used it enough to see if there are bugs with certain files so I am going to wait to decide if I want to buy it.
Anyways i'd say on average from the moment I decide that I want to watch say season 2, episode 18 of venture brothers in 720p, it's about a minute and a half from deciding to watch it to having it streamed on my television. For dvd -> tv it's about 2 1/2 mins. Overall it's a pretty neat addition to my usenet setup
If there was a way to integrate supersearch into bintube, it'd be rad.

You can stream basically anything video wise but I don't use nzbplayer or anything like that to do it. I use my own method.

How can you stream if it's broken up into separate parts and in zips and rars? Quite simple actually. The files just extract one at a time as they are downloaded and you can start watching as soon as the first zip or rar is downloaded! This is a good idea to do if you want to make sure if the video is the correct format and region as well. Kinda like a sample file if they don't have one already.

| Re: ok so bintube newsreader is actually pretty damn cool said by fonzbear2000 :That's pretty sweet!, but not worth the $40 that Bintube costs. Well that is why I use a free program I found a long while ago someone made but never finished. You can do it manually but that is no fun. Found it off the slyck forums. nzbplayer is pretty nice though as well but I prefer the more simple program I use now.
The other thing you have to make sure you use a video player that will play broken files and continue to play them as more of the video is added while it is being unpacked. So far I only found one video player that does that. The other one I use will play them but I have to restart it whenever their is a new part of the video that was unpacked which sucks. Thankfully the first video player doesn't have that problem.
You can even stream iso, mkv, etc files too. I done it before. Not all the time with iso but a lot of the time you can.

@ntl.com | Alt.Binz can play stuff while downloading, just like BinTube. There is also »nzbplayer.com - a free alternative to bintube.

I don't think this is true anymore (the part about the Astraweb account working with Bintube). They must have put in a radius server type of thing to check for a Bintube account. I wonder if a registry hack could fix that.

Bintube actually connects to news.astraweb.com, so it doesn't really check to see if you are a Bintube subscriber it just locks it down so that you can not change the server you are connecting to.(Note you must download the free version and not the pro version) -- [IMG]»img218.imageshack.us/img218/2636···3dg6.gif Wildblue(unfortunately) Pro Pack / Beam 40 / Laredo NOC / Windows Vista Home Premium

For a one-off IP lookup, an edit to the 'hosts' file would probably be easier than setting up a local caching DNS server. this is true, but the software may look at the HOSTS file for any changes relating to the name of the website the software authenticates to and complain that the HOSTS file was modified, and it may not work correctly. this is the same case with newsleecher-- ☺

2 edits | Re: ok so bintube newsreader is actually pretty damn cool said by NormanS :Sounds like flawed software. i wouldnt say flawed, i would say smart. take newsleecher for example. the program checks the hosts file for "newsleecher.com" contained within it. if it finds it, the program will not authenticate and supersearch will not work. do the same thing with a home dns server, and the program doesnt know any better. smart way to try and thwart a "cracker". i think a smarter way would be to have the IP address embedded in the application code and have the program check the IP address its connecting to authenticate against what is embedded in the application. of course, this would only work if the IP is going to stay static permanently and if you cannot obfuscate the embedded IP address within the application from those editing it. and even so, one could get past the obfuscated IP address within the application code by using a ethereal sniffing program such as wireshark or a tcp connection viewer. you would still need to know what data is being requested/posted/replied in order to get the program authenticated. most programs that authenticate over the internet do so with plain text that can be exposed and captured easily. even if the data is encrypted, you can still mimick it through the use of your own home web server.-- ☺

| The only disadvantage to streaming is if you need par files to repair one of the .rar or .zip file you really can't stream the video the whole way until that one file is fixed.
Unless of course the file that needs to be repaired is like number 30 to 50 something of the rar or zip file.
That way you can watch up to that part and if your download is fast enough it can fix it before your streaming program that automatcially extracts the rar or zip files so it is fixed before hand.
Now if they can create a program that can stream the whole video all the way through even if some parts are damaged then I will take a look! I doubt that is possible though. Not that it really make a difference now. Rarely stream much sense I really don't need to now.
