Now THAT is funny. NPR...balanced news. What a joke... Do you even LISTEN to NPR?
For years they were as nearly as far left as Pacifica. I stopped listening to them over a decade ago. Something had to have happened; I don't know what. I remember there was a threat to pull their funding around 2005 because of their leftist slant to the news.
About a year and a ½ ago, I tuned in because it was all the radio would get in and I almost dropped dead from shock. NPR was reporting on the primary runups and not overtly favoring the Democrats at every turn. I had to pull over and check my universe; I thought I had wandered through some sort of portal.
As if that weren't enough, NPR actually gathers news. They NYT and the BBC are excellent at finding meaningful stories. But by the time they're done filtering the story through their bias machine it's almost unrecognizable from the truth.
But they do bring the story to the table and I can't really say that about Fox. Fox will resupply the non-left side of an issue, after most of the media carefully edits it out. That's why they are universally hated by the left. However, Fox rarely digs up anything meaningful on their own.
At least with a BBC/NYT story, I can look up the details that were omitted during the crafting of the story; and get the complete issue. With NPR, I don't have to put in the effort. If a leftist has editorialized an issue with their comments, NPR will find someone from the right to offer a countering view. They weight both sides equally. I can't come up with a single broadcast or cable network who'll do that, reliably.
Lastly, NPR is interesting. I heard a 1 hour story on a web outfit that reverse-419's Nigerian scammers. They have the 419 guys running all over West Africa after wired money that isn't there. NPR had a reporter at the Web Site HQ and another in Nigeria following one clown from city to city until he was broke and stranded in some town not friendly to vagrants. What a great story.
I don't know if you listen to Rush without question (he has been brilliant but his beliefs are stale) or you're a leftist who can't bear that NPR went off the farm. Whichever it is, you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
