|  [Vista] Vista Media Center - Change TV Default Save Location
Hi All,
Well the subject line about says it all. I've searched the net and this site for directions on how to change the default save location and have come up blank.
I would like to save recorded TV to a network drive.
Any ideas?

Open MC
go to TV&Movies
Recorded TV
right click anywhere
click settings
TV
Recorder
Recorder Storage
Then pick your location.
*Not sure if it will see a networked drive though... It DOES see my portable drive when plugged in(J drive)

| Maybe if you map the drive Media Center will see it as an installed drive... can't hurt to try.

Hi,
I tried editing the registry as outlined in that link. Tried both the string \\netcenter\recorded tv and z:\recorded tv. Rebooted on each change and saw NO changes in the Media Center record options even though the changes were saved to the registry. It still went to c:\users\public....as the only option on both changes!
Just for clarification purposes I'm trying to record to an NAS device rather than a server.
Still open for suggestions,

| From everything I have read, MCE is hardcoded to not record to NAS or any sort of Network drive. Most likely a design feature.
I do not think it is possible to have MCE record directly to any non-local storage. However you should be able to copy after-the-fact. |

I believe that you may be right about the hardcoding. However the cut and past operation is too much hassle for my girlfriend.
It might be time for a batch file to run at startup to cut and move the files automatically and then have Media Center watch the move-to folder....
Maybe someone could post an example of such a batch file as I am unfamiliar with the syntax needed?

How about “Sync Toy” which is apparently a Microsoft utility:

I’m sure there is another small utility that can accomplish the same task if you don’t like “Sync Toy” .
Also after the registry changes I don’t think Media Center will correctly display the new location that recorded TV will go to. Therefore I would verify that your NAS is actually getting the recordings. |

Hi,
Here is the solution that works for me:
created a .bat file with the following;
C:\move "C:\users\public\recorded tv" "Z:\recorded tv"
and put it in the start up folder;
then set media center to watch the "z" folder

I have this working for me but the recorded tv content only shows up in videos. It does not show in recorded tv. Issue with this is if you are recording a series you will record the same show multiple times.
Where did your content show in TV?

| Reported same issue in a microsoft answers forum - new suggestion. Change remote location to z:\
Recorded TV\TV Storage
What does this do? It allows media center to find files and know about content. So you can continue to record series and not record same content again. I am testing this now to see if it works.
If you go to directory on network on vista machine content shows up in explorer as media center content and has full details. Within media center content shows as video without full details |
