| reply to stev32k Re: [FireFox] display problem when viewing ebay pages
I also get this intermittent problem of displaying eBay pages too wide in firefox. Strangely enough, IE works fine. It happens on my desktop running Vista and on my laptop running XP. It is bad enough that I have considered dropping F.F. and installing Chrome (IE had it's chance for years and will not get another).
Now that I have read these posts I think the problem lays with eBay as it only started after they upgraded to their new look. I'm not sure that they will do anything to correct this. |

| reply to stev32k I'm not a programmer and don't understand HTML, but what seems strange to me is that the display problems are spotty. If the programming is to blame why is it only on a few pages? Does the code change that much from page to page? Or is it only one or two lines of code that cause the problem and they are not present on every page? If that is the cause it looks like someone could track the nasty little code down by determining what lines they have in common that are not present in good pages. |

| reply to stev32k I have had problems displaying ebay pages on and off for months, primarily ever since they started "developing" their new look and their new search "experience". I first experienced the display problems with the older Firefox, only under the "new search experience". I still have problems, most often when doing a search. I also will occasionally lose the ability to handle some javascript on ebay pages, such as "watch an item" click box. This problem would go away if I would click on my IE rendering option in FF. Then the problem went away a day later. I can't help but think that the ebay programmers are still tinkering with the code. |

1 edit | reply to stev32k Seems like I have the same problem, primarily in Ebay Motors once the page is fully loaded, most auctions, the page is too wide have to scroll to the right. Looks like the problem is the box with the tabs that say " Buyers Description, History Report, etcetera. The info that appears under these tabs in every other browser, is off to the right in Firefox. Just tried on a random computer at work and had the same problem but only with Firefox. Looks like every Ebay Motors major auction, like from a dealer with lots of pics and info. The only pages that are normal are the simple auctions with little information. FWIW, the page appears normal until just before it finishes loading....then the scroll bar on bottom will suddenly appear and page shifts.

@ameritech.net | reply to stev32k I'm having problems with ebay. On the feedback page in the last column under date and time - pages aren't loading. I've had it open for 10 minutes now and it still says loading all the way down the column. |

@nctv.com | reply to banditz71 Thanks bandit. I went to same page today and FF displayed it fine. It is a mystery, may have been a temporary glitch on eBay. Thanks! |

| reply to v35_pilot W3C reports 368 HTML errors on that page, as seen at this shortened link of the results: »is.gd/1oWwD
I compared this to a more stripped-down, or bland eBay auction page and that page only resulted in 83 errors being reported.
Again, just a thought that one of those 368 HTML errors is the real cause of the problem and not FF? |

| reply to v35_pilot Here's a thought - it is possible that the problem is not with FF but perhaps with the non-standard HTML used by the auctioneer or the software that created that page.
I am certainly no HTML guru, but as an occasional seller on eBay I would use software to create the eBay page (to make it more flashy than the default, bland page). Occasionally I would run into issues with the HTML produced.
Maybe that page is using a non-standard, IE-specific HTML tag? I believe there are websites that can scan that webpage to see if the HTML code is standard or not. Let me try it and post back. |

1 edit | reply to stev32k Aha! I just checked that particular auction and I, too, am experiencing what you are experiencing.
Something on that page is different than other ebay auctions (as seen in my previous screenshot).
edit - Here is the shortened link to that auction:

| reply to stev32k Here's a screen shot of an example page. They all look like this one. There is a lot of space in the middle that should not be there. The pages display correctly when using IE.

I've disabled or uninstalled all plug-ins and extensions - that had no effect. I've completely removed all firefox and mozilla files and folders and re-installed Fx - that made Fx start-up much faster and pages load much faster, but still have the ebay display problem.
I'm running Win. XP Pro. |

1 edit | reply to stev32k said by stev32k :All the pages do the same thing. There is a lot space that makes it necessary to scroll to the right on every page. Okay, just checked several pages and all are rendering in my FF 3.5 with many plug-ins installed:

Has to be interference in your install from either a plug-in? |

| reply to v35_pilot said by v35_pilot :said by stev32k : Anyone have any ideas? You haven't mentioned what you did to this point, so this may be rudimentary - have you cleared out your FF cache and reloaded the pages? How about create a new FF profile and try under that one? I tried all of those and in addition I just deleted all fire fox and mozilla files and folders - everything - and started over. Ebay pages still do not display correctly.
I'm now in the process of disabling all plug-ins one at a time to see if one of them is causing the problem. |
