1. Yes, "digital converter" and "digital set-top box" are the same . . . program guide, digital channels, On Demand, etc. DTAs simply convert digital signals to analog for the channels on the expanded basic tier.
2. There will DEFINITELY be more HD coming this fall. Details coming in the next several weeks.
3. To schja01's question, we wouldn't deploy DTAs to Basic Cable customers because we continue to offer Basic service in an analog format throughout Illinois. |

Joe, that's NOT entirely true - down here in Spfld alone, you guys converted several basic (NOT expanded basic) channels to digital only. So, I would think that basic only subs should be entitled to 2 DTA's as well.
Some of the channels you guys moved include EWTN, ION, C-SPAN 2 & our local PBS on ch 8 - you also have several PBS subchannels in digital only, that are part of basic service. |

@sbcglobal.net | reply to Spiderman865 will CLTV stay on analog?
Will CLTV go 24/7 with CSN+ SD getting it's own channel?
Will the CSN Alternate (the csn web site does have a alt and + in the channel finder) show up on the system? |

Direct tv has CSN SD / HD, CSN + SD / HD, and CSN ALT SD. |

CLTV is on digital and analog but will it stay on analog after this big turn off? CLTV is considered expanded basic (the digital copy is currently encrypted), so the analog will probably disappear. Also, it's a joint venture with Comcast, so I doubt it'll ever be on broadcast.
Before WGN adds any more subs, they need to get better compression equipment. Even with only the one sub, they tend to have pixelation problems. WCIU spent big money on high-end equipment, and they have surprisingly good quality despite the 5 subchannels (MeTV, MeToo, This, That, FBT). |

IF they actually start using DTA's, then typically it will be the expanded basic channels that will be unencrypted. That said, the DTA's do support a 'privacy mode' that is a simple digital scrambling that prevents a regular TV from viewing the picture. It may turn out that only limited basic channels, like now, will be truly unencrypted/unscrambled.
That said, by me, most of those channels are on a few frequencies. They can put physical blocks in to prevent basic users from accessing them. |

I'm going to need two DTAs for two older TiVos. Anyone know if I can go pick them up now? I'd like to get this done ASAP, before the rush, and get any potential bugs worked out now. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |
