The test will be whether that lip service translates to real citizen protection. Unfortunately what could have been nipped in the bud a few years back is now institutionalized. One can only hope there will be better legislative and judicial branch oversight than in the past. There were few here who were concerned with the ever-spreading government surveillance and diminishing fourth amendment rights, while others either ignored the possibility of a left-leaning government coming to power, and/or spouted things like "if you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have anything to worry about".
