 | reply to ZaRRaZa If you have your own domain name could set up your own email not tied into anyone. For now with google apps you can use a domain name to set up your own free email up to I believe 50 users thru them. If google apps disappears or starts charging can just take your domain elsewhere and set it up maybe for free or a small charge. Thing is you will never lose your email names as long as you remember to keep your domain registered. If you really become good you could always set up your own server later instead of using google apps to host or someone else. |
|
 | reply to ZaRRaZa Now of course I still have some free yahoo, msn account that are anonymous for spam and other uses that could not be as easily tracked. But in this case you Cox accounts could be tracked easy so this is no different and you keep them even if your service provider changes or the email hosting goes under. |

 | reply to ZaRRaZa I also use gmail. Have 1 account, maybe opened 6 months ago, no spam yet. I do believe cookies must be enabled to access the account. I will have to pay attention next time there but a message is displayed saying I have 7??? ( a 4 digit number) Mb of space left. If that is correct they are allowing 7Gb of space. I have not heard of bat! email client. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa I have accounts with several providers; each for different purposes.
I setup and manage email servers and get to spend lots of time with the DNSBLs and other Spam Tools/Criteria. With that behind me, I have to agree that GMail has the best Spam Filtering I've seen.
I regularly use them to filter my clients that are heavily abused, by allowing Gmail POP/IMAP access and/or POP retrieval and Sending Email as Alt Account. The only downside is that only Google decides how often to fetch the mail from the primary POP server. That can result in a delay; sometimes a half hour.
FYI: GMail requires a text message to a cell as part of the signup process now.
I also have accounts at box.az when they were handing them out like candy. I've set up several with common first names. Alas they restrict signups to Azerbaijan IP addys now.
I have a hotmail account that predates MS's ownership by 2 years. I grudgingly have a Yahoo! account that I use for certain Yahoo! groups. (My Yahoo! sig links to sites that cover Yahoo! turning over IP info to the Chinese government that resulted in imprisoning/torturing non-violent dissidents. Every email I send includes the info.)
I also have accounts on domains that I am responsible for. I use them for support issues, device notifications and the like.
I just registered my personal name as a .net and .com, so I'll be adding more email accounts soon.

ErgToo lazy for idealism join:2008-01-19 | reply to ZaRRaZa Another vote for Gmail because of POP3/IMAP forwarding, memory space and spam filtering but privacy is a matter of concern. Note that Gmail is in Beta though. |
