As if there aren't already enough votes for GMAIL, here's one more.

I finally found a mail service that I cannot possibly outgrow.

They are CONSTANTLY adding server space on an incrementing number that vastly outpaces the accumulation of email and their spam filtering and disposal features do not require that you spend all day tending to them.

Their open invitation to add user features and apps is very compelling.

The thing is heuristic, almost human, and we get along just fine.

GET IT.

First, my apologies about the Gmail and phone nmber req. I never saw it, as it is possible to never see this if you use invites to setup the account, which I have in abundance, and was just easier to send to someone and click it, rather than go for the sign up here....so, my apologies.

Second, to those saying GMail gets tons of spam...are you talking about in your actual Inbox, or in the SPAM folder? If in the SPAM folder, who cares?

I have 6 GMAIL accounts. Some get thousands of spam messages a week and others get none.

Go figure

I have had hotmail, yahoo, gmail, gmx and a few others most for many many years, I like gmail but do not use it as often as some others because I get so much spam, each day the spam box has hundreds of emails that I delete. Amazingly my hotmail gets the least spam of any of them, on average maybe one or 2 a day is about it and they are always filtered to the junk file.

I wish my gmail was different and did not have the spam problem I would prefer to use it since I like to use thunderbird especially with my linux boxes and gmail works well with TB.

the yahoo rarely ever gets used, I do like what they have been doing with gmx, they are definitely listening to their subscribers and their forums are quite helpful.

I use GMail and have not had an issue with spam contrary to what others have to say.

Yahoo & Hotmail make for good throw away accounts IMO.

I've had many, but remain very satisfied with gmail.

the only feature I wish gmail had is some sort of
message preview, since even when you save a
message in draft to send later, you can't see how
it looks by the recipient until you send it out and
BCC: it back to yourself.

Is there any web based free email with such a
"forum" like message preview ability?

FYI: GMail requires a text message to a cell as part of the signup process now.
This is absolutely false.
It was true way back when during the beta of Gmail, but not now.
Well, that explains everything.

As of a week ago, it was not. I created an account about then and GMail required me to provide a cell phone # to send a confirmation to. I had never seen that before.

There is nothing you can say that will change that that is what happened.

Obviously I must have gone back in time a couple of weeks and fabricated these sites, just so I could perpetuate the 'GMail SMS' charade.

p.s does gmail limit the size of attachments? Cox had it at 10 or 15MB i think.
I believe the current attachment limit is 25MB and they are frequently increasing it as their business model deems.

Gmail sucks the big green one!!

Very limited in the attachments you can send/receive. Spam is absolutely stupid!!

Get a Yahoo account instead!!
You have got to be kidding me?!

Yahoo mail is used for signing up to crap websites...might as well get a hotmail, too.

Gmail is the way to go.
I've used both for years. Yahoo for at least 10 years and gmail since it went beta. I love my gmail account and the only reason I still keep my yahoo account is because we have a group on there of all my high school buddies that we use all the time.

Gmail provides a type of aliasing, but probably not what you're referring to.

You can take youraddress@gmail.com, insert a plus sign after youraddress, then stick anything you want after the plus sign and the message will be delivered to youraddress@gmail.com.

For example, if you send an email to youraddress+sometext@gmail.com, the message will be dilevered to youraddress@gmail.com.

At one point in time, Gmail either required an invite from another user OR a verification code sent as SMS to a cell phone. I used the SMS method myself to set up an account or a friend.

If you've had your Gmail account for years, you would have never seen this as they only did it for a short time, and the only time you would have seen it was if you were signing up, NOT if you already had an existing account. I've had my account since for just shy of 5 years now and I never had to provide a cell number either. But as I said above, I did one time when setting up an account for a friend.

There's a lot of things in this world that you've never seen; that doesn't mean that they never existed.
Very true, but I also set up the accounts for various friends and family through out the beta, and all were done through invites. It may have been possible to use the phone as a way around having an invite, but it was never mandatory, which is my point.
