I use their free "Guest" account. Works great.
Access by website or Mozilla Thunderbird. If using Thunderbird, set it up as IMAP rather than POP.
And TONS less spam than on G-Mail. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa I have Gmail and GMX accounts, but also found a no thrills but very secure niche provider, Lavabit. Messages are encrypted on the server and there is no password reset because that is stored encrypted and not accessible by support. Again, POP and IMAP, no thrills interface, but solid and secure email accounts. |

Aside from that, I'd have to say that Gmail is the best currently. |

I have had my Gmail account for years, and I have never had to provide a cell number. That is completely wrong. The only time a cell phone # was required is if you wished to receive text alerts on your phone for the Google calendar app and such, not for the general email account. -- Let us so live that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry. -Mark Twain

| reply to ZaRRaZa Yahoo Rox... it has no storage limit, and is Free... I have bounced from provider to provider and NEVER used their pathetic email systems.
although I do use gmail as well... but Yahoo should get a vote in here as well. A very nice webmail system, if not the best. |

| reply to ZaRRaZa oh wow, so many responses. Thanks a lot guys. I went with gmail. They asked no cell or phone number though. I easily configured gmail on my The Bat! client. As far as this client, i been using it for around 10 years and i love it, way better than ms outlook. I also have dreamhost, but it makes no sense for me to make some of my domains as my main email addresses because i have no plans on resigning with dreamhost once it expires in december. I guess i will stick with gmail forever. I loved cox though... but as soon as i canceled their services, i lost all my email accounts.
thanks once more.
p.s does gmail limit the size of attachments? Cox had it at 10 or 15MB i think. |

| reply to Koil At one point in time, Gmail either required an invite from another user OR a verification code sent as SMS to a cell phone. I used the SMS method myself to set up an account or a friend.
If you've had your Gmail account for years, you would have never seen this as they only did it for a short time, and the only time you would have seen it was if you were signing up, NOT if you already had an existing account. I've had my account since for just shy of 5 years now and I never had to provide a cell number either. But as I said above, I did one time when setting up an account for a friend.

There's a lot of things in this world that you've never seen; that doesn't mean that they never existed. Very true, but I also set up the accounts for various friends and family through out the beta, and all were done through invites. It may have been possible to use the phone as a way around having an invite, but it was never mandatory, which is my point. -- Let us so live that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry. -Mark Twain

| reply to sream Gmail provides a type of aliasing, but probably not what you're referring to.
You can take youraddress@gmail.com, insert a plus sign after youraddress, then stick anything you want after the plus sign and the message will be delivered to youraddress@gmail.com.
For example, if you send an email to youraddress+sometext@gmail.com, the message will be dilevered to youraddress@gmail.com. -- I'm one of those people you can't take out of context. You have to see the whole me before I begin to make any sense. |
