betabilly posted : Yeah, I was working on line this morning riding my neighbor's unsecured wireless network. He's pretty far away and I was getting a lot of drop-outs (probably everytime his dog walked by his router) so about noon I fired up my dls modem and router and it's been trouble free all afternoon. Not as fast as before but better than putting up with his weak signal.

Smith6612 posted : There's nothing wrong with your line. Since your modem is in bridged mode, it's normal for the Internet light to be dark. It will turn slightly red during boot. It will be green/red if the modem is managing the connection.

@ The poster above: Your problem is with your upstream margin and sync. Proper sync rate for that package is 864kbps. Also, upstream attenuation is typically half of the downstream attenuation. Plug your modem into your NID and post up the stats from the NID.
--
It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab!

[connectivity] 5 minutes up time before loosing connection

betabilly posted : For a year and a half I've had a problem-free Verizon 3meg dsl connection, no slowdowns ever, consistant 2885/697 performance, no hassles until this week. Now I have to cycle my modem off for 5 minutes to regain dsl connection only to lose that connection within 5 minutes.
I have a Westell 6100 bridged to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The power, ethernet and dsl lights will work on the modem but the green internet light never comes on, when the modem is cycled the internet light glows very dim red until the dsl light stops blinking, then the internet light stays off. I've checked all my house wiring and it works with no static on my phone, I have a dedicated Cat5 line I installed to the NID only for the dsl modem. No splitter/filter on that line. Moved the router and modem to other line jacks in the house and the same problem exists. The modem feels quite warm to the touch. If I could stay on line longer, I could do a new diagnostic but when it was working fine the stats were:
Dsl speed 3355/863
Margin 31.0/13.0
Line att 16.0/8.0
Trans Power 17.2/12.1

Offhand I assume the modem is going bad but I wanted to check with the professionals here on the forum.

If it wasnt for my neighbor having an unsecured wireless network, I would not be writing this but instead be trying to deal with Verizon support.
Oh, I almost forgot, the dsl light stays green even though the connection to the internet is lost.
Thanks in advance.
