1 edit | Teksavvy Internet + Phone bundle?
Hi, I'm currently using Teksavvy Premium DSL 5mbps connection and I'm trying to look for special saving plans for my home phone. I notice that Teksavvy also has a home phone service and I'm considering if I should switch from Bell home phone to teksavvy. A special feature that I need for sure is the Caller ID feature and if I can get call waiting that would be a bonus.
Right now I'm paying ~$30 CAD/mo with bell for Caller ID + unlimited local calling for their home service and I'm wondering how much I can save by switching to TS home phone service and if there are any special bundle savings if I use their internet as well? Thanks for your time. |

1 edit | They offer a $3 discount if you get Internet + Phone + Unlimited Long distance, but that's pretty much it. You and 3 other people can get a $2 group discount if you create a group of 4. I believe there's also $1 off per month per referral.
Most of TekSavvy's features for Home Phone are $3. Call Display is $3, Call Waiting is $3, but Visual Call Waiting (Which includes both of those, as well as the ability to see the waiting call) is $9. You can probably blame Bell for the illogical math.
The base price depends on where you live and it starts at $21.48/month.
EDIT: Clarified VCW |

There's call waiting, caller ID, and visual call waiting (being able to see caller ID during a call). If you get visual call waiting, you don't need to get the other two. |

I just find it really stupid that it costs $3 more to see who your waiting call is from when already subscribed to the appropriate services. |

| reply to murdoc2k Well I don't do a lot of LD calls so the savings for me is minimal. My need for call waiting is only occasionaly while I need to know if the incoming caller is a telemarketer or not.
I might still switch over to get the $5 discount and see if I can start a group and refer some friends to reduce the monthly bill xD
Bell lists their basic pkg as $17.95 and so I'm guessing that they're using anti-competitive tatics against TS thus the $22.25 monthly for basic phone service. |

No, they're showing you a bundled price, not some anti-competitive tactic.. So "buy these other things and we'll give you a lower rate on the home phone". Widespread tactic in use by everyone. It just looks shady because it's what ppl have come to expect from Bell because of abundant negative publicity. |

| Bell adds a zillion service charges to their price (especially the long distance) while TekSavvy advertises the actual price.
Random note: even if you don't use LD, you can save money by switching to TekSavvy LD just because then you don't have to pay the Bell fee that they charge if you don't have LD. |

| reply to murdoc2k I just added Teksavvy home phone and long distance, along with my internet with Teksavvy, I am saving $28+ per month now compaired to when I had Bell, Rogers and Primus, my long distance is sporatic, as one month I will hardly use it, compaired to the next month I may use it alot, my long distance carrier used to be the CIBC bank which would automaticly pick the cheaper rate between Bell, Rogers and Primus, that was great, then the CIBC sold the service to Primus, after having a close look at the Primus bill and what the charges were, I compaired it to Teksavvy LD, Primus charged me $7.67 before tax for 53 minutes within Canada, the Primus service charges were more then actual time used, the Teksavvy cost would have been $1.53 before taxes, Primus added on, what I call a "WTF is that fee", even if I used Primus a-lot more for LD, the price is still cheaper at TS. |
