Does Cogeco do installs on the weekend?

We do in Quebec, all except VOIP since phone number activation is only open during the week days.

I'm asking because my friend is moving and needs it installed on a Saturday or Sunday next week. The person over the phone claimed no installs are done over the weekend, he doesn't want to take a day off work and wait around all day when this can simply be done over the weekend. Is there a secret password, or should he threaten to leave Cogeco to get this task accomplished next Saturday?

While this thread is getting attention, can someone give me a list of Cogeco's DNS servers?

EDIT: Found em', any reason why tech support wouldn't know these?

Thanks.

There's no magid word to say to have them make an installation on a weekend if it's not available in the area...

Would help fellows from Ontario if you said which area he's moving to

I think it depends on the area. You can't book service calls for rural areas on a week day however I've successfully booked weekend service calls for St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

Weird that tech support wouldn't give you their DNS servers. I can't believe they wouldn't know what they are, maybe some kind of strange security issue? I mean, it is kind of strange that a Cogeco customer would call and ask what their DNS servers are when they could easily find them for themselves... who knows.

St. Catharines, North End, Scott and Geneva - I could give you his full info via PM if you could schedule an install on the 11th or 12th. ^___^

I could have found the servers myself, but I didn't want to plug directly into the modem. Kind of lazy, got someone else to do it for me!

Unless the tech was lying to me, she honestly did not know what the DNS servers were, actually, she didn't know what a DNS was period. I asked to be transferred to a senior (level 2+) rep or a supervisor, she said that she was the only one there and started giving me lip after that.

I hung up once she started getting aggressive, called back - got her again... Hung up, got the addresses from a friend. You should throw them into your little thread.

24.226.1.93
24.226.10.193
24.226.10.194
24.226.1.94

I told her that my routers new firmware broke a feature called DNS Relay(Made my browsing VERY slow) and that I needed to disable it and manually input Cogeco's DNS servers. She kept going on and on that it wasn't supported, I kept telling her that I wasn't asking for help with my router, I needed 1 or 2 simple addresses.

Anyways, getting the DNS servers fixed my issues instantly.

St Kitts, Welland and Thorold all have weekend installs (except for digital phone)... maybe they are all booked already?

If they have them, I can only say that weekend installs are popular...to be able to get one for next weekend may not be possible.

In regards to the DNS...its not a question that comes up at the CCC that often because usually either the router or the PC obtains that info via DHCP.

Query: If you're using a router to obtain an IP address, it should still have the DNS information even if you are setting it to manual...so you should have been able to get it yourself even without plugging into the modem directly

Anyone else think the names for the name servers servers are simply awesome?

Who's responsible for them? please confess.

93 == skywalker.
94 == vader.
193 == kenobi.
194 == maul.

The sysadmin is a geeky freak.

My friend just called back today and got a Saturday install scheduled without any hassles.

Doesn't make sense why another rep told him it could not be done over a weekend.

Moral of the story is: When a Cogeco rep says it can't be done, just call back and get someone else!

Actually no. Naming corporate servers names like that is pretty amateur and unprofessional.

That's solely a matter of personal opinion and taste. Considering there are only 4 public name servers, I doubt it will cause them any serious problems. In case you didn't know, servers function just as well regardless of whether or not they're named server1, ns1, rinkydink, chipsychips or skywalker.
