| mlppp dynamic.. ip range needs increase
The ip range for a dynamic mlppp user is x.x.1.0-x.x.1.255 and then it goes back to x.x.1.0 This range is very small, getting crowded and starting to defeat the purpose of dynamic for some users. Kind of feels like a semi-static dynamic ip with such a small ip range and sequential ip assignment.
Could the TSI team please provide a greater dynamic range and/or more randomness in ip assignment, not just ip assignment in sequential order.
If not ... its ok. Just like the way the old dynamic ip assignment was set up, among various ip ranges. |

Teksavvy has the following large netblocks that can and are used for customer IP addressing.
You will on occasion jump between any of these subnets.
TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. TEKSAVVY (NET-206-248-128-0-1) 206.248.128.0 - 206.248.191.255 TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. TEKSAVVY (NET-69-165-128-0-1) 69.165.128.0 - 69.165.191.255 TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. TEKSAVVY (NET-76-10-128-0-1) 76.10.128.0 - 76.10.191.255 TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. TEKSAVVY (NET-69-196-128-0-1) 69.196.128.0 - 69.196.191.255 TekSavvy Solutions, Inc. TEKSAVVY (NET-75-119-224-0-1) 75.119.224.0 - 75.119.255.255
Edit:
If there is an IP that is being assigned to you that is blocked on various blacklists, just let Teksavvy know and they can work to get it removed. They have done it for me in the past.
Best of luck! |

shubjero..
The netblocks aren't that big.
for me its 206.248.128.0-206.248.128.255
Thats only 255 dynamic ip slots that repeat very regularly. |

| reply to mlpppdyna34234 Chances are the way the equipment is setup...its just not possible to allocate extra blocks to ERX07.
Its hardly a semi-static dynamic IP...you might think of it as a 'reserved' IP...
And, chances are if Tek doesn't have more than 500 Dynamic IP/MLPPP users they won't allocate more IPs to the space because it would be a waste of their already scarce IP resources and availability.
So, keep it up, I have static, I love it... |

@teksavvy.com | ok well. If tsi does choose to add larger ip pools or multiple ranges for dynamic mlppp, that would be nice.
In any case really enjoying the official mlppp service. thx tsi. |

I just want a greater ip range than 255 not perday... but the same 255 everyday, over and over.
Im not getting banned off of nothing. So its just makes me question the helpfullness of this online community. |

| reply to mlpppdyna34234 There's nothing "semi-static" about it. Dynamic just means you're not guaranteed to always have the same IP, which is still the case. And aside from evading netblock bans, I don't see how the current setup defeats the purpose of having a dynamic IP. The main reasons people seem to want them (harder to track, easier to escape an attack, scamming services that have per-IP limits) still apply, even if you just get the same IP with the last digit changed. The only exception I can think of is one user who had a pretty extreme corner case.
Besides, allocating fewer IPs than there are users is the main reason ISPs like TekSavvy use dynamic IPs at all. It's really just a throwback to the days when you could allocate 256 IPs for 500 users, knowing they'd never all be online at once (which is likely still the case, although to a much lesser extent). Having to allocate more IPs than there are users is just backwards, especially when they could force you all on static and only have to allocate one IP per user. |

1 edit | reply to mlpppdyna34234 Exactly jat, a dynamic IP just means you don't get a static IP, it doesn't imply anything about how much your IP or subnet will vary.
Again: there are no expectations as to 'how dynamic' your IP will be. The only guarantee is that you well get an IP, it could very well be the same one you just had or the one you had yesterday. We can't help you with your unreasonable expectations.
Think of it like 'renting' anything else: you can pay extra to get the same hotel room/car/pair of bowling shoes every time, but otherwise there are no guarantees about getting or not getting the same or adjacent room/same or similar car/same bowling shoes. (For example if you stunk up the room/car/shoes or got the cops on the trail of that type of car). You get A room/car/pair of shoes and that's all you can expect. |

@libertip.com | reply to mlpppdyna34234 Don't rely on dynamic addressing for your security needs. It's a very bad idea. |
