RR ConductorHappy 40th AmtrakPremium join:2002-04-02 Redwood Valley, CA kudos:1 1 edit | A very short but VERY awesome flashback of KROQ in the 80's KROQ was MY station back in the day, good times and good memories! Jed the Fish, Poorman, Richard Blade, they were the best! KROQ DJ'd some of our LDS Church Dances, and Richard Blade DJ'd our Covina High Senior Prom at the Biltmore in 1990. Now they have become just another MTV, crappy.

By the time I moved here though, I was like "THIS is what all the fuss is about?" Like all once-cool stations, it was nothing but a corporate schlockfest. |

Now it's all Ranchera, all the time.

HappyBunnyHi. Cram It.Premium join:2001-06-23 Long Beach, CA kudos:1 | reply to RR Conductor I feel bad for kids now, radio was freaking awesome in the 70s (and in the 60s too, but I was a baby and didnt listen then The jocks broke new acts and introduced us to them and generated excitement for them ('MMS broke out Bruce Springsteen and introduced David Bowie to the US). They sponsored huge concerts that everyone went to, and we all bonded over the music. I dont think that happens much anymore. Now the jocks are personality-less bores who play what the suits tell them to. Which is why I only listen to internet and satellite radio. |

RR ConductorHappy 40th AmtrakPremium join:2002-04-02 Redwood Valley, CA kudos:1 2 edits | reply to RR Conductor I would have definitely liked that one too. I found a cool station online, KROQ Roq of the 80's, I'm not sure if it's them running it or not but it plays the stuff KROQ was made famous by. I'm the same way in my listening too Bun, satellite and net radio all the way for me, crappy ota radio these days, and there isn't too much choice up here as it is, though we do have some original, independent stations like KOZT »www.kozt.com/ They have won quite a few awards.

Like this but with KROQ |
I also liked KROQ back then. I even made a KROQ sticker out of the KLOS stickers that became big.
Now that I got new speakers for my Blazer, an IPod touch and the adapter to play it on the stereo. I haven't had a radio station on in about 5 months. the radio has been going to shit for a while and I don't drive enough to pay for XM or Sirius. -- mbsastronomy.com |

 | reply to RR Conductor KROQ was great. They used to introduce alot of good alternative music to peeps. They are super corporatized now. When they started playing Paramour and Katie Perry, they went on my banned list. The morning show started sucking too, and I stopped listening to that when they just became a non stop on-air commercial for shitty TV shows and movies.
You can catch all of the good 80's songs KROQ used to play though on their stream: »www.roqofthe80s.com/
It is a shame too that Indie 103.1 FM went under. But they would not buckle to the labels, and become another KROQ. They have a internet stream, but it's not the same. All of the good shows are gone (Jonsey's Jukebox/Jury especially). I think you can still catch Barely Legal though which is worth a listen. |

kroq has been crap for about as long as katie perry has been alive, let alone with boobs big enough to sucker an a&r guy into signing her to a label. -- Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam. |
