| reply to soitgoes2 Re: Google Voice Now Allows You To Change Your Number
Thank you for the invite. Eventually Google Voice will have to be released to the public or fold. If Google bought 1 million phone numbers, my guess is they are getting ready to release Google Voice to the public.
If Google were planning to release its Google Voice service for free, it would need 100 times (or more) than the 1 million numbers it supposedly purchased. I suspect there will be a monthly charge for Google Voice, though time will tell. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

1 edit | Google Voice won't fold if they keep it invite-only. Back when I signed up for Grandcentral I had 10 invites I couldn't give away, if it was going to fold it would have been then when invites were easy to get and tons of people were signing up. Google is probably Level 3's best customer and could get all the numbers they'd ever want when they want them. |

| But before, each registered user could give up to, I think, 10 invites to who they wished. Now, you have to register in order for Google to actually invite you if they want to.
Hence why sream stated "There's no invites like before." |

Unfortunately, I don't know if the invite was from the request I entered a few weeks ago -or- from a request I entered a YEAR ago, when they first closed it up. -- 3500/512 5.7 GHz Motorola Canopy Wireless; FoxValley.net 'It looks just like a Telefunken U47 !' |

Some people get them quickly, but there are other people who signed up over a year ago still waiting for their invites. Go figure.

1 edit | I wonder if they're distributing invites based on the likely place that you'll request a number. There's little point (particularly during the beta period) to have a cluster of users in large metro areas... |

| reply to pandora Re: Google Voice Now Allows You To Change Your Number
I just got back a Google Voice invite that I requested with a Yahoo mail account. It only took three days. The invite was in my junk mail folder.
Another request I did on June 21st using a GMail account still hasn't arrived. Nothing there, including in the junk mail folder.
So I guess Google treats Yahoo Mail customers better than their own. |

| reply to pandora Yes, except you can not really make call from its web site. When I last tried googlevoice site, it merely displayed "we got an error." From Gizmo5 account, you can call out, but they charge you $0.02 per minute, not free.
If I were google, I would fix those misleading information right away, since so many people with the expectation to make free calls and free incoming calls would be so disappointed, some attorney may intereste in representing them. |
